Thought I’d post a quick update. Any burners which have had heavy use over winter will have soot within the inners of the burner and the flue lining which will be corrosive over the summer months. It’s well worth that extra sweep to ensure your burner etc stays in tip top condition. All sweeps include cleaning the inside of the burner and its baffle plates as well as power sweeping the flue, a smoke test and signed off with an ICS certificate. Busy period was before Christmas but I’m still avidly sweeping. The rains have congealed with soot inside flues and with milder weather approaching will begin to smell. This issue is more for cowls which are higher on the bird wire and tend to let the side driving rain or moisture down the flue. Advice it’s always worth that second sweep to keep your burners and flues in tip top condition. A fire the night before a sweep will ensure all the soot is cleared.

Even if you haven’t used your woodburner or open fire, debris and cobwebs could cause carbon monoxide issues. It’s recommended to have your flue swept and burning appliances checked at least once a year or twice in the burning season under heavy use.
