On Saturday I popped back to see a front garden that we competed last August. Ten months on and at first glance it looks to be settling in well, however upon closer inspection we can see that the local Muntjac have been feasting on the Rosa 'Munstead Wood and the Sidalcea 'Elsie Heugh'. Pesky little critters...!

Today I received a very welcome e-mail from a client in West Sussex, along with a few photographs she had taken to show me how things are settling in since our last planting session. This is one of our favourite projects, originally designed back in the 80's by the godfather of garden design John Brookes. We've got big shoes to fill here... The e-mail said:

"Hi Ali,

Just wanted to let you know that the Open Gardens day went really well! Over 1500 came to the village. We had glorious sunshine and the garden looked amazing - the roses were blooming, also the poppies, the peonies, the phlomis and even some of the irises were still going. The head gardener from a local estate (West Dean) said he thought it was spectacular and that you have a real gift for composition. He particularly liked the square beds with the mass of nepeta, alchemilla mollis, lavender and roses all tucked into the box hedging, and the contrast between the formal garden and the wild garden (the foxgloves looked great). Everyone was very complimentary.
Thank you so much for all your creative input, your hard graft and inspiration! We feel so lucky and privileged to have had your help and are really looking forward to enjoying our summer in the garden.

Very best wishes..."

It doesn't get any better than that. 🙂

An e-mail arrived from a client today...the sort that makes you feel really great about your work...here's a snippet:

"I thought I would send you a couple of photos of the walled garden which this year looks absolutely stunning.

You will see a vase of cut flowers from the garden which was always a dream of ours to achieve.

Please give us a visit when you are next passing as it would be lovely to see you."

Yesterday I popped in to see some clients whose garden was completed in February. It's settling in nicely but not quite finished: the previously ivy-clad fence recently blew down and a new 'orange' one has been erected in its place, so it will soon be painted a very dark grey to match the frames of the bi-fold doors, which will look so much better.
