Bristlecone pine is one of the longest lived trees species. The oldest is more than 4800 years old! They grow at high altitude in places like the Sierra Nevada.

I am trying to put some of that dead wood into a very small and very young example and it is so slow-growing it could still be decades before its truly presentable!

Kusamono are small potted plants that can accompany your bonsai. They sit next to each other to complement or contrast the style of the tree. You can use pretty much anything that will grow in a small pot; I've seen dandelions and nettles used and they look great!

What a great day sharing a passion for bonsai with some new folk. We were so busy beavering away that I didn't get any photos! It alway is such a joy to see someone who has never tried the hobby before taking a real interest in how to create bonsai and seeing how they apply their own knowledge as they learn 😊
