This week is National Children's Mental Health week, like adults children too are affected by there home being cluttered, not just the clutter its self but they are aware of the effect it is having on the adults that they live with.
If you watch any of the decluttering programmes that are on the tv I always look at the children's reactions when they see there home clutter free. Many of the children say that when the house was cluttered they spent a lot of time in there rooms disconnected from there families because there was nowhere for them to sit together, some of the children had other family members clutter in there room limiting their ability to get away to their own space.
Children's toys are one of the biggest sticking points when it comes to de cluttering but if a child has a large pile of toys they will generally only play with the ones at the front of the pile because they are the only ones they can get to.
Holding on to toys which they have outgrown as well is another problem.
If you children are a bit older involve them in the sorting out, if for a example you have three dolls buggy's and two prams ask them to choose a buggy and a pram explaining to them about charity shops as well helps , my own children donate their toys at times they also like to sell them at car boot sales as they can see the money and know they can then buy some thing else with it. They did this last year with the Paw Patrol toys they had outgrown.
If you are in a position where you can have toys on rotation then you can box up some toys after sorting and put them in the loft or garage etc then every three months bring those boxes down and put the stuff they have had out away.

If you need help with a toy declutter and sort out then please get in touch

Christmas is coming and you have people visiting and the house is a mess? Don't panic !
Work out which rooms are priority, generally those that people are going to see , Sitting room , Kitchen, bathroom, toilet , bedroom if they are staying

Work systematically , start at the top and work down or start at the bottom and workup which ever is best for you. Don't necessarily think to start with the worst room. It will be better to start with an easier room where you will begin to see results and once you have done one room your achievement will be your motivation for the next.

Go into the first room and make a note of what needs done ie Kitchen , clear works surfaces, wipe cupboards done, Clean oven, clean cooker hood , wipe out fridge etc be realistic with yourself about how long this will take depending on the size of your kitchen and what needs done. It
could be anything from two or three days of doing an hour or two in the evening if you are working and trying to juggle everything else to a full week of evenings and possibly a weekend.
Don't think about the other rooms just do the room you are in. Throw things away as you go, have boxes to put things in that you don't need to go to a charity shop, and for things that belong in another room (Lego I find appears in every room in the house!)

Don't do what my parents used to do hide all the mess in the shed 😁. They moved at the start of the year there were things put in the shed over twenty years ago which never made it back into the house and ended up in the skip.

If the task is too big to handle alone then please get in touch.

I love these rotating organisers. They have so many uses. Not just in the kitchen. Think bathroom, dressing table , kids paints. The uses are endless.

This one is only £3 from B&M Stores

A little tip for sorting out your wardrobe.

Once a year I go through my wardrobe and sort out what I want to keep and what needs to go either to be sold, go to the charity shop or go for rag ( some charity shops will take rag as long as the bag is marked as such)

Then when I put the clothes back in that I am keeping I put the hangers in the opposite way around to what I usually put them in that way so next year I can clearly see which clothes I have worn in the past year and which I have not ( I know the past year probably isn't the best example ) which then makes the next sort out a bit easier.

I also love using the IKEA Dimpa for storing out of season items in the loft the are strong and at £3 very good value. I also use the product tag which is on them as well by writing on the back of the label what the bag contains. I started using these nearly 8 years ago and the original ones are still going strong.

If like me you are a little sentimental about certain items of clothing but you know you will not wear them again consider having them made into something like a bear or a blanket or even a cushion.

Too much to tackle on your own ? I can help just get in touch

We have all seen those Instagram homes with all the storage perfectly matching. Storage solution's don't have to be expensive.
I use ice-cream tubs and plastic take away containers amongst other things . Toilet rolls can be used to store cables and ear phones.

Shoe boxes can be used in all manor of ways.
If are buying storage for you kitchen look on it as a long term investment. I have built my collection up over many years buying it in stages as I have been able to afford it. Many shops these days have fantastic storage at reasonable prices. I have found things in TKM , The Range , Home Bargains , Poundland etc even charity shops you can find things like baskets .
