The trees on this estate were being damaged by the wire fencing that once protected them! Restricting growth and damaging the cambium.

We often see trees that were planted 2+ years ago, being strangled by tree ties. If your trees have been supported for more than a year we recommended removing or at the very least loosening tree ties to prevent damage.

This ancient female Yew has lived through over 1000 summers. This year was one of the driest and hottest on record! ☀️ 🌳

To help her cope with the heat we’ve mulched her root zone with chipped birch branches. They’ll slowly break down improving the soil and act as a thermal buffer; protecting the soil from high temperatures and retaining more moisture for this incredible tree.

Actions like this make a big difference to tree health.

Look at the war taking place inside this birch tree. Hoof fungus Fomes fomentarius is breaking down the trees internal defences whilst the birch tries to hold off decay and lays down new wood each year.

This time the Hoof fungus won and the birch tree fell during high winds.

The black stain is from a nail that was hammered into the tree about 7 years ago.
