Planning Approval received for this extension in Aberdeenshire. Using locally sourced natural materials, this simple modern design has been carefully positioned to respect neighbours and the existing building. Creating much needed quality additional living space, the design improves thermal performance, lowers running costs and strengthens the home’s connection to the surrounding garden and landscape.

One of our current projects with stunning views along the Aberdeenshire & Angus Coastline. We provided a sympathetic design that follows the form, mass and scale of the existing building coupled with high performance insulation and vapour open construction to provide a very energy efficient building while at the same time managing potential moisture issues common with older buildings of this era. Our client wished to maximise their views towards the coast with large glazing positioned to capture and frame the scenery. At the same time we installed sliding natural timber louvres to combat potential overheating from its South facing location.

At ABRY Architects, we bring your vision to life long before construction begins.
Our in-house 3D visualisations let you explore your design in detail, empowering you to make confident decisions and play a dynamic role in shaping your project.

🌿🐝 Biodiversity at Work: A Small Sign of a Bigger Commitment 🐝🌿

At ABRY, we’ve been enjoying the sight (and sound!) of our rhododendron in full bloom just outside our office — and it’s alive with bees!!!

It’s a small thing, but a powerful reminder of what we value: a living, functioning landscape that supports biodiversity, even in modest urban or rural settings. The presence of pollinators like bees is not only a welcome sign of a healthy environment — it’s directly relevant to our work as architects responding to Scotland’s National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4).

NPF4 sets clear priorities around nature recovery, climate resilience, and biodiversity net gain — and at ABRY, we take those responsibilities seriously. From the way we think about landscape and site planning to how we specify materials and manage development, supporting ecosystems is part of our design ethos.

We also want to acknowledge our local farming community — after a long dry spell, the arrival of rain this week would have brought real relief. It's good news for the land, the growers, and the broader environment we all depend on.

Architecture doesn't exist in isolation. It grows from the ground up — literally — and we’re proud to do our part.

Great to see that Planning Approval has been granted for the regeneration of a currently empty building in the centre of Brechin. The proposals will allow for the formation of two town houses while still maintaining the neighbouring shop unit. We are extremely proud to be a part of this exiciting project that will see the continued use of a very nice Grade B listed building.
Many thanks to for their support in providing an excellent Lidar scan of the existing building.
