Well, July so far has been quite something weather wise.

We've had week after week of glorious sunshine here, which sounds wonderful — and it is — but after a while even the roses start looking a bit thirsty. And honestly, so do we.

We've written up a few thoughts from the past few weeks in the nursery journal. The heat, the roses going from bud to bloom almost overnight, what to do if your garden is struggling in the dry, and the lovely little reminder that autumn is already quietly on its way if you know where to look.

A note from the rose fields — the heat and UV is something else this week, and our roses are absolutely bolting, going from bud to full bloom in a matter of hours.

One of the most common misconceptions about growing roses for a wedding is that you can plant and cut in the same season.

A newly planted rose needs at least two years established in the ground before it'll give you reliable cut stems — in year one, it's all about the roots not the flowers.

A Whiter Shade of Pale.
Soft blush pink blooms that slowly fade to near white. A proper rosy fragrance and a quiet elegance about the plant that seems to suit a British garden rather well.

A Whiter Shade of Pale is a very good rose all round.

We’ve written about it properly over on our blog, growing tips, flowering etc. Worth a quick read if you’re thinking of adding this rose to your garden.
