Hay-on-Wye this morning for a great new customer. A nice way to start off the busy week ahead — sweep, service, CCTV inspection and safety checks completed on a couple of Hunter wood burners. 🔥

Busy day on the rods today at an impressive Victorian property that had stood empty for many years before being recently purchased by the new owners.

They are planning to restore the original fireplaces as period features, so I was asked to professionally sweep and CCTV inspect every flue before restoration work begins.

One chimney revealed a small historic nest, which was safely removed during the process. Another fireplace had been laid ready to light with newspaper and coals still in place — the newspaper dated back to 1996, suggesting the fire had not been used for nearly 30 years.

Properties left unused for long periods can often hide years of soot build-up, debris, nests, and blockages within the flues, which is why a professional sweep and inspection is always recommended.
