Carlo Scarpa is one of my all-time favourite modern architects, his playfulness with form and light is incredible.

Natural lighting is one of the most transformative elements in design. It has the power to turn a dark, uninspiring space into one that uplifts moods, creates atmosphere, and adds a touch of drama. And natural lighting goes far beyond just standard windows.

Think skylights, sun tunnels, mirrors, glazed floors, light colour palettes, and architectural forms that diffuse and play with light. Incorporating these elements isn’t just practical, it’s one of the most creative and rewarding aspects of design.

Throwing it back to almost 10 years ago when I worked on my very first interiors project, the refurbishment of the Morley College reception area.

The goal was to create a vibrant, light-filled, and flexible space that celebrated the creativity of the college community. We incorporated display areas for student artwork and restored the traditional parquet flooring, blending modern functionality, playfulness, and original features.

Looking back, this project marked the beginning of an incredible journey in architecture for me!

While AI in design sparks plenty of debate, it’s undeniably a powerful tool for generating instant ideas. Seeing this striking yet neglected structure during my travels, I couldn’t help but dream of its potential. Imagine turning something forgotten into something extraordinary!

Revitalising existing buildings isn’t just creative, it’s a crucial step toward a sustainable future. Let’s embrace the art of reuse and give old spaces a new purpose.
