We were instructed to inspect and treat areas of suspected damp at a lower ground-floor flat in Hove. Our survey identified widespread penetrative damp, salt contamination, and lateral moisture ingress across various rooms. The issues were exacerbated by age-related construction weaknesses, poor external weatherproofing, and chimney deterioration.

Salt contamination is one of the most common issues we see in older Sussex homes, especially around fireplaces and chimney breasts. Moisture draws soluble salts out of the brickwork and pulls them to the surface of your plaster, leaving those patchy marks behind and slowly damaging the finish underneath.

Here's a recent project we have been working on in Hove, East Sussex. The living area and fireplace had salt contamination coming through, so we carried out a full specialist treatment, replastered the chimney breast, and the new log burner is in.
