Question. What happens when you inadvertently book a week of gardening work, during the hottest May week ever?��

My advice? Get hold of some factor 100 sunscreen (who knew?), frequently find a shady corner and most importantly, book jobs with clients that will keep you topped up with water, keep checking in on you and were happy for me reduce my work day slightly when the sun got too bonkers 🔥🔥🔥

I installed new flowerbed edging boards for my first amazing customer of the week and today finished up spray painting fencing and a gate for another one.��

Both were absolutely overjoyed with the results, I miraculously didn’t get burnt and for now at least, the sun's still out !

No you're right, I'm not an antiques expert but....
...the door I got to work on today was certainly pretty old, felt a little historic and was just a privilege to paint. I also managed to squeeze in both window reveals, sills and frames before it rained for 2 minutes and nearly giving me a nervous breakdown.

Luckily, all was well and happily, my wonderful customer was absolutely over the moon. And I can't really ask for more than that.

WFH? I thought that business was all over......
...and then I had a brainwave regarding one of my customer's requests to make their unsightly exterior 'coal cupboard' look a bit more presentable.

I found a gate that was very nearly a perfect fit, made a few alterations, primed it and painted it in my own garden in the glorious sunshine - and fitted earlier this week.

Customers verdict : "magnificent!" which will, as they say, do me!

It was only last week that I got burnt (yep, again) brightening up the outside of my clients home with a bonus bathroom spruce up thrown in too....

Not sure if you’ve noticed but, there's a lot of weird stuff going on in the world at the mo.....
...unfortunately, I can't blame any of that on my dwindling ability to take 'before and after pictures' on all the jobs I've been lately!

I have however, remembered on the odd occasion to take some 'midway through and after' photos. Which is obviously, quite niche content !!!

On a positive note, many of my recent jobs have been in the Brighton sunshine, which has been incredible.

It just feels so different from being stuck in an office.

It just feels good.

Let's face it, some weeks are better than others.....

Luckily, this has been one of the good ones. I started the week with a water damaged ceiling and a window frame that had definitely seen better days. It is fair to say I was pretty chuffed with the result and thankfully, so were the customers.

It must be living in Brighton & Hove that I seem to just meet nice people, which equally seems to make the work just that little bit more rewarding. Happy days !

Do I regret not working in an office anymore?

Nope.

Especially, when I get to back to an office and now know that I can bring actual tangible value to the staff as well as a vital business space, functioning as a boardroom and perhaps more importantly, a meeting room for external clients/partners.

The people at Wild Nutrition were beyond helpful with the spec and colour choice they wanted in order to bring the same warmth and welcoming feeling that the staff oozes, into the actual workplace.

I am really proud of this one and upon receiving really positive feedback, so are the clients.

Thanks to Wild Nutrition for giving me the opportunity to work with you on this project but mainly, thanks for being such good people !

Hey guys, guess what? Yep...the sun's out 😎

And that, always lifts the mood right? You know what else can be mood lifting.............extra storage !!!!

Weirdly the last two days have been focussed on two completely independent storage solution projects. The first was to install an 'instruction deficient' shelving system, transforming a once double doored messy cupboard into a single door, slidey basket ensemble!

Luckily the client was incredibly happy and incredibly cool, which is always a bonus......

The second storage solution came from within a family home with a small spare cupboard which has been transformed into a place to store all their laundry/towels/bed linen. Again, i must just be lucky to meet great people but, they were extremely happy with the bespoke shelving i built and chuffed with the extra storage solution that i got to spend time in the sun, cutting and building. Happy days!

Roll on summer and roll on more wonderful clients.

Busy week last week, I spent a lot of the time meeting new clients and discussing pending and future projects, which is always exciting and gives me that renewed sense of freedom and the confirmation that, switching up my professional life was absolutely the right decision. I've met some lovely people over the last 7 days as well as completing an amazing office project that I'm really proud of. (pictures to follow!)

And that is why I'm doing this. For the people I get to meet and the sense of satisfaction I get by helping them improve their day to day by even the smallest amount.....it's just so much better than fighting with Powerpoint & Excel !!
