Welcome to D D Construction, My name is Dan and I am a fully qualified City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 Bricklayer which I achieved through Carillion Construction over a 3 year course and I have over 10 years experience in the building trade. Projects which I have previously worked on range from commercial work including the development of the baby unit at Southmead hopsital in Bristol and the developmen

t of new housing estates in and around the Bristol and Bath area subcontracted by large well known firms to extensions, patios, stone walls and general renovation of a range of private properties. Over the last year I have thought about starting my own business as I feel I have gathered a good range of knowledge of the building trade and now feel I am at the peak of my building career, for a portfolio of my most recent projects refer to my pictures. If you like my work and are interested in a free quote for any building work that needs doing then do not hesitate to contact me on either my mobile phone number or email address, I regret to inform you that I do not have a landline phone number available at present for personal reasons.

Floors laid, grouted, and sealed.
I sealed the hallway again, so it all looked new again. These limestone slabs have made the space feel much larger.

I have a couple more slabs to cut and lay in the doorway to the next room to be completed. Hopefully, get them down cut and laid next week at some point.

Radiators on and en-suite plumbing 2nd fix done.

Some 2nd fix carpentry now, door went on today, but the handles never arrived in time for me to install.

Some oak to be cut and installed around the glass in the shower window, some trim work, and architrave to finish. I've got some white oak planks, so I will make what's needed in my workshop. Door stops mainly!

Lime wash this week hopefully, and this room will be ready to move into later next week

Honestly, i think this has to be the best way to mark and cut slabs, make a template with laths, and use a gluegun to keep it all in place.

Super easy and accurate every time.

Finally finished the heritage lime plaster top coat. It's still drying, so I've been back a few evenings to dampen down and finish some moulding.

Managed to get the Ardex 2 part levelling compund poured, this was due to the floors being bitumen and its one of only a few products that fully bond to it and it stops any moisture penitration
Then, an uncoupling membrane is stuck down, and the limestone flags are laid.

Back after Xmas to complete all the remaining slabs, cuts, sealing, and grouting. This will then be ready for the 2nd Fixing plumbing.

It's a total random bond, but the slabs are all the same width (600mm) this means they are run in courses, as the rooms bigger than the hallway i have laid more of the bigger slabs to make the room feel bigger and feel less "cluttered" and "confused" the customer is very happy with the finish.

More heritage lime plastering this week, dub coat, hair coat, scratch coat, and now top coat. All these coats need 7~10 days to carbonate and set ready for the next coat.
Air limes need misting with water while the carbonation is happening. You have to make sure it's kept slightly damp to prevent dry out. It really is a fine art with timings and application.

The customer asked if i could make the corners a bit less clinical and perfectly square, so I made this moulding tool from some scrap pvc pipe and loads of CA glue.

It gives a distinct rounded corner that is visually close to a traditional staff bead profile.
The shape of the profile is all done by eye, so it's not 100% perfect, but this is what the customer has asked me to achieve.

All top coat lime plastering here is sponge finished with a more course finish in preparation for limewash, around 5~6 coats, potentially more if needed.

Finally got this build is finished today. Well, the structure is finished.
Next up is the reinforced concrete slab/roof.

In total, this has taken me 216 hours, or 27 full 8 hour days from start to finish.

There have been some physically very hard days, but it feels worth it now that it's complete.

Once the slab has been poured, it needs to be fully cured before we can prime and then g.r.p over top to create the waterproof surface.

Options are indian sandston slab finish on top or a g.r.p crushed slate walkway, both Options are feasible and will look good.

Then, some handrails are to be fitted on the steps and around the perimeter.

My first child is on the way (very soon), so this may be a springtime job to get the next stages completed.

It's been a busy few days!

Crammed this job in whilst I still had the van!

The van decided to p**p its pants on Saturday on the way to work, blocked D.P.F and limp mode!

Anyway, this was a complete rip out due to shower leaking badly, and for years, most likely since install, tiled plasterboard in a shower!!! The sink was stuck on, no fixings, same situation for the toilet. The sink and toilet were kept and cleaned, but the tray, enclosure, and tiles are new.

In-between working, I've managed to make a new side alley gate.
Canadian heat treated oak sleepers, morticed and tenoned with spruce tongue and groove planks.
Every edge of the timber has had three coats of ronseal, even the tongues and grooves, so it's made to last.

Hopefully, I will get the posts made tomorrow after work and potentially get it hung at some point this week after work.

A small weekend job.

Reclaimed bricks put to use in creating a buttress, as this wall has a bit of a lean, so in order to make it safe, it needed to be done.

NHL 3.5 lime was used, the wall has cover and is being kept damp to allow carbonation to happen.
