For the month of June, we have the striking prints by Lea Lloyd - local artist who works out of , not far from Riverside! 🎉 We are really enjoying having botanical beauty captured in a different way, with our team debating which plants remind them of each print 🌿🌿

✨ All pieces seen here are for sale! 25% of each sale is donated to our charity of the year, which is for 2026 and the rest goes straight back to the artist!

"Lea Lloyd is a designer and screen printer known for her bold, colourful, and geometric works that radiate energy and personality. Her work includes painting, digital composition, and an intuitive approach to screen printing, exploring the interplay of colour, shape, and layering to create vibrant, pattern-based artworks. Lea works as a graphic designer by trade so screen printing and painting provide a grounding contrast to her computer-based day job allowing for a more experimental and hands-on process.

Her work explores the repetitive patterns and rhythms observed in nature, the quiet details noticed onduring daily walks. Each piece begins with a single
shape, repeated again and again in different colours, transparency and layering the end result showing that simple shapes can evolve into complex patterns. "

Our top 3 tips to get the most flowers from your roses 🌹 🏵 👇

🌹 1) If growing in a pot – choose a deep, traditional shaped pot, rather than a bowl. Roses have big, woody roots that go down rather than out

A part B of this tip would be, be a good feeder and waterer for roses in pots – they’ll thank you!

🌿 2) They do need sun for the blooms to be their best. Roses can grow in shade, but you’ll get many more blooms if they are planted in a sunny spot

🏵 3) Be realistic about the space you have. Roses can vary from growing 2m to 20m – check our label before you commit!

✨️ Looking absolutely amazing – a popular gift and an impressive staple to any garden

✨️ Pick up our free Roses guide too to get some more top tips!

If you've been to Riverside the last few days and wondered what this was.... It's the Poplar tree! 🌳

Every year, we get a sudden burst of these fluffy white seeds that fill the air and float all around ✨️

Some of our team say it's magic, like fairies in the air. 🧚‍♀️ Others get frustrated after a week of sweeping it out the shop! 😅

Pop down this Bank Holiday to see our spring (not winter) wonderland! 🌿🌿🌿

🍬 The sweet scent coming from the climber tables this week stops us in tracks 🌟 Riverside Recommends 🌟 Not to miss!

Featured here:
💜 Clematis Edda
A variety of Raymond Evisson that is neat and compact, so it is ideal for either a patio pot or the front of a border. It bears masses of medium sized flowers of a rich purple-blue over a long period throughout early and mid summer. Delightful!

💜 Clematis Wildfire
A Polish hybrid that is very long flowering, with a succession of huge (6-8”) flowers of a rich glowing purple with reddish bars from June to September. The blooms become darker as they age and early ones may be double.

💜 Clematis The First Lady
Lots of fabulous dusky mauve-lavender-blue flowers with contrasting purple antlers are produced in June with further flowers through the summer.

🪰 Watch Out Flies!!! Unlike anything else, these plants have developed a special way to collect extra nutrients in their natural habitat.

✨️If you’ve been tempted to add something special to your houseplant collection - consider a carnivorous plant! You can't get more unusual than this!

🌱 Carnivorous plants need special conditions with compost that is low in nutrients like the marsh they are naturally grown in. They thrive in damp conditions, hence us keeping them in a water tray. Please ask if you would like any more information about caring for a carnivorous plant.

🐦 In response to the RSPB’s updated guidance on what and when to feed garden birds, Riverside Garden Centre is changing the way we display these products. This is due to research showing that some species of garden birds, such as Greenfinches, are experiencing serious declines from disease. You can read about this update on the website

🌿 We expect most of you would have seen this announcement, with the BBC covering it and it being shared across social media. To help spread the message ourselves, we have added posters and guide summarising the main points and emphasised their message, “Feed seasonally. Feed safely.”, beside our wildlife products.

🌟 The RSPB have recommended that we pause filling bird feeders with seeds or peanuts between May and October and suggesting you can continue offering mealworms, fat balls or suet in moderation but with care to keep these areas hygienic. In response, we will put most of our stock into storage over this period and only available for customers if they ask for it.
🌟Additionally, the RSPB have given advice on the styles of bird feeders, baths etc. that help reduce the spreading of disease. We are working with our Bird Care suppliers (RSPB & National Trust) so our stock reflects this advice.

🐦 We hope that with implementing these changes it will further encourage our customers to think about how their gardens can support wildlife in Bristol.
