Did you know you can replace your old window sills and not the entire window frame?

For this project, I cut the weathered timber away and crafted a new, replacement window sill from timber, shaping the wood as necessary, and cutting in a drip groove underneath to help prevent rain from penetrating the building. The result is a sill that looks like it’s always been there.

It’s important to treat the remaining wood with a preserver before joining the new sill and painting to finish. Then, mortar and repoint around the new sill and use extreme external sealant adhesive around the edges to finish.

I recently had the opportunity of modernising this bathroom for a client, a lot of prep work removing old tiles and repairing and tanking the walls. New electrics for the replacement moisture resistant lights, removing the old steel radiator and installing this beautiful towel radiator, new sink unit and mirrored wall unit-new plumbing after working our way around the original flooring. Compact but bright, clean and happy environment. Client so pleased I will be continuing to renovate other areas of their home in the near future. Frosty outside - boiler not working 🤔

It's worth checking out this tip ⤵️ before calling a heating engineer 👌

A tip for anyone struggling with boiler issues in this weather.

Like most gas engineers I’ve been inundated with calls this week with ignition faults. Every one of them has been the condensate pipe frozen so if you’re having issues since the cold weather and you have a white pipe off the bottom of the boiler (picture below for guide) check if it goes outside. If it does, put a kettle on (NOT boiling, just hot) and pour it over the pipe a few times, normally this will clear it.

Unfortunately running a business and going to see people costs me money so I have to charge for call outs, but I don’t want people paying for call out fees if it’s something they may be able to fix themselves as times are hard enough for everyone right now!

If you have an original feature (in this case a 1930’s door) and you require it renovating I can assist. From stripping back the weathered paint, refurbishing the original hinges and refurbishing the original chrome door knocker and letter box access, cleaning and repairing the glass, painting and reassembling…I made a tired door come back to life. Thankful to have had the opportunity of painting feature walls in a custom green within this property and prepping and painting all the woodwork throughout including the stairs and spindles all undertaken whilst other work was ongoing in the house and the client at residence as well 1 week from start to finish, hallway, landing, ceilings, downstairs bathroom and master bedroom and taking out the front door step and tiles and refitting and tiling with patterned tiles. Have you Winter-proofed your garden yet?

This was a testing but satisfying job I recently undertook replacing fencing.

I started by clearing away the scrub, brambles and garden growth so I could begin negotiating digging out the post holes and post-creteing in the 6 x 4 inch posts.

The new fence required aligning negotiating tree stumps and mains cables on one side and fitting a vanity partition on the other side that followed a wall.

I hand-crafted a bespoke gate providing a secure access point fitted with 3 T hinges and locking bolts.

Some serious digging and fence panel alterations were undertaken to bring this project together and I think the end result shows it.
