WELL-BEING DAY WORKSHOP

I’m on what looks like a jam packed agenda on Saturday at Halton Mill’s Wellbeing Day. I’m looking forward to running my workshop and attending lots of other workshops too.

Today I’ve been working out what to say and do in my 30 minute slot. My plan is to create a fun, informative and interactive session and those of you that know me know that I could easily fill a whole day with information about design psychology so I will be very careful about what I decide to include in this short session.

This workshop is great timing for me. i’m really looking forward to it.

I’ve had a busy year of change and I can feel plans for the future starting to develop and that includes running more workshops and writing my next book as well as promote ideas from the current book.

I also have been meaning to create an online course but I can’t see my way with that one yet… hopefully I will see through the maze of potential ways to do it and have a plan for that too soon. If anyone has ideas about how to help me do that please get in touch 🤪

Anyhow if you’re local to Lancaster and here on Saturday, buy a ticket and come along. I’d love to see you.

Love
Michelle ☺️

I’m making my brain work today. But working in the cool of the garden 😎 so maybe it’ll balance out?

I’ve read through Susanna’s book from the perspective of the ideal reader and now I’m revisiting it on a more personal basis.

How can I build more authority and scalability around my design personality concept (IP)? What art work will really make it easy to remember and talk about? What are the ah ha moments in the process for clients/ readers? And many other questions!

My book came out 3 years ago this month and although it’s been read and listened to all around the world I really am on a mission to spread the word further.

I’m hoping that Susanna’s book holds the secret to communicating this and another idea that I’ve been holding back.

Wish me luck!! … And if you are looking to share your ‘distinct thinking’ further and through others this book maybe for you.

Shout out to for designing my book and I discovered also designed the cover for Susanna.

Love (and hopefully enlightenment)
Michelle ✨

Yesterday I spent a happy three hours fiddling about with my lounge gallery wall. It’s not quite finished but it’s nearly there. The key is creating asymmetric balance. I find it hard to exactly explain how I do it but fiddling about is a key part of styling. Ask any Stylist!!

At the moment I’m reading a book about why art is good for us. And sitting this morning drinking my coffee and planning my day I thought about all the effort and creativity and love that’s gone into creating the artwork on this wall.

Some of it is mine, most is by others; many of the artists I know personally, some has been joyfully bought (like finding treasure) from vintage markets. This wall is a story of me and my life and tastes.

It is of course curated to fit the fresh spring flower inspired colour scheme. All my natural autumn palette landscape art has gone into the hall. Which means when I decorate the hall it will need to be sympathetic to the lovely landscapes now residing there. But that’s thought is for another day…

Why is art good for us? If you’re interested in this subject I suggest you read ‘art cure’ by Daisy Fancourt. Art can improve health, increase life expectancy, create resilience against diseases like dementia and it seems to me the main theme underlying all these facts is the reduction of stress. I certainly find making and enjoying art to be the most satisfying part of my life.

Human beings have been painting and telling stories for many thousands of years. Often paintings are telling stories. We were drawing on caves long before we settled and started farming. When human beings use their hands and their hearts to create - real beauty is the result.

Many thanks to the following lovely humans whose art is displayed here 🙏🏻

PS my lounge isn’t finished yet… I still have to finish making the cover for my futon on and a
new lampshade and a few other things. Isn’t it a shame that we can’t transform our homes as quickly as the snap on an Instagram post? 😂

I’m pulling together some decor changes atm. Fitting it in around work and other things so it’s taking me awhile 🤪.
Just wanted to show you a couple of vintage finds salt to me for the grand sum of £3 each.

I’m probably going to change the frames. Either paint them a bright colour or add moulding… Something to better set off the beauty of the tapestries. But otherwise they are perfect as they are.
Somebody has put a lot of time and effort into these flower displays and I love them.

Do you have a favourite vintage find? 💖

Decorating progress. Two walls finished today but I have a cold so I’m going slow and slept most of this afternoon.

I’ve realised that taking a couple of weeks (or three) out to decorate my house and little garden and create the right environment (I mainly work from home) will pay me dividends work wise. Because it will boost my mood!

i’m also having a major sort out and some of the things that really fitted in my cottage really don’t fit here so I will either be giving them away or selling them. I might put them on Vinted. What do you think?

Nothing stays the same forever. Making the most of the spring energy!! feeling a bit impatient to get it all done! My to-do list is epic 🤪

PS Instagram suggested I use this Kate Bush audio. I can’t argue with that 🌸

A quick video about how happy I am today!

Even I am surprised at how much a tiny amount of brightly coloured paint has boosted my mood in my own home. I should know better 😂

The environments we spend time in have a significant effect on our mood and well being. So it’s really important to get them right … and to create and spend time in environments that suit your design personality.

Maybe this is your sign to be brave, forget the trends and what your neighbours say. Is it time to create a home environment that really suits you?

Michelle 💖
