O and Keith the Plumber lol don't ask! For as long as I can remember I have loved creating things with my hands and seeing something develop from nothing into something. I think my earliest memory is trying to make '
perfume' out of flowers from the green in front of my house - obviously the fragrance was never quite what I was aiming for. But still the desire to create was there from an early age. I graduated in 2008 with a graphic design degree but never had the courage to take the pledge into the creative world, fast forward to 2016 and I decided it was time opened my etsy store. In 2018 I had the most devastating news - my Daddio, my friend, my sound board was no longer next to my side. Most of my nicknames are from my Dad – Princess, Curly and it is this reason why I decided to name my business – Curly Kale Designs in memory of him. When he became ill one of the things he said to me was: When he looked back over his life, he never REALLY did wanted he wanted to do - career wise. Sure he enjoyed his work and the people, but it wasn't his passion. And it was those very words that really hit home to me, no more silly pointless excuses, this is what I want to do, what I need to do - THE TIME IS NOW!! (And yes I did play Moloko – The Time is Now)
So…. here I am surrounded by all types of pens, paints, paper, materials, notes pads and books creating things that sing from my heart and soul that I love and hope you do too. I love designing typography porn and creating on natural items such as wood and slate to vintage rustic items like saws and blow touches. But I also crave mixing it up with some delicate font or material like wool and putting it together onto some less than perfect wood. I also have a desire to create slogans and words out of unusual items like my favourite peanut M&Ms! (Note to self must tell Alexa to buy another 5kg bag!)
