Robbie the Gardener

Robbie the Gardener Your friendly, local gardener offering expertise in all aspects of garden maintenance.
£20/hr I don't use pesticides or herbicides.

After spending 6 months volunteering through the WWOOF organisation and discovering my love for nature and the outdoors, I started my own gardening business in 2013 and now have 9 years experience in all aspects of garden maintenance. I very much encourage people to work with nature, rather than against nature, in their gardens as much as possible; often we are rewarded with a rich, flourishing ec

osystem that brings as much joy to the owner as it benefits the wildlife. I don't take waste away; there is almost always a way to make use of it in the garden, whether as compost, mulch, or wildlife habitat such as a dead hedge or log pile. I use alkylate fuel in my machinery.

Long time no post! Catching up on my socials, apologies for the absence!

Convinced one of my maintenance clients to allow her lawns to be left uncut over the summer, as they were clearly already teeming with wildflowers (as established lawns often are!) and we were rewarded with a small copper, and a common blue 🦋

If you're interested in converting your existing lawn into a flowering lawn, or creating a wildflower meadow from scratch, check out my design and renovation work at www.bristolwildgardens.co.uk

Little bed by front door weeded. New builds don't always have the best soil, but if they are south facing like this one it does make it the perfect environment to grow wildflowers 😎🌻

Congested shrub border that was in danger of becoming a hedge thinned out and tidied up 🙂 once the new growth has filled out the remaining old stems can be dealt with next year.

Old trellis replaced and overgrown clematis armandii thinned out and given a tidy up. Best to keep on top of armandii after flowering - it is very vigorous!

Great time of year to renovate a holly tree... unless it has nesting pigeons! Always be careful of trimming, pruning, renovating or removing any shrubs, trees or hedgerows from March to August - you never know what might be making it a home. 🐦

A dead hedge is a wildlife friendly, efficient way to dispose of prunings and other garden waste that is too woody for the compost. Simple to create, it saves time and energy otherwise spent in disposing elsewhere, and is a significant benefit to local biodiversity, providing a valuable habitat for all manner of creatures - mammals, birds, and insects. If you have the space - give one a go!
