The Frenchay Flower Show doesn't just happen by itself...

Behind every exhibit, every cup of tea, every smiling face and every memorable moment is a fantastic team of volunteers helping the day run smoothly.

We're looking for a few more people to join the hive this year.

The good news? You don't need to commit all day. Most roles are just 2-hour shifts, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the Show yourself.

There are a variety of roles available, including:

Behind the scenes, the hive is swarming with activity as our amazing volunteers work hard to bring you another fantastic day of flowers, family fun, competitions, entertainment, food and community spirit.

🐝 Today is World Bee Day 🐝

And it feels like the perfect moment to celebrate this year’s bee theme for the Frenchay Flower Show 🌼

Bees do far more than make honey. They help pollinate around a third of the food we eat and play a huge role in protecting biodiversity and our environment. That’s why this year’s show is proudly embracing all things bees, pollinators and wildflowers. 🌸

From our bee-themed classes and children’s activities, to the Bee Trail Challenge around the showground… we’re hoping to create a little buzz while reminding people just how important these tiny workers really are.

So whether you plant a few wildflowers, leave part of the lawn to grow naturally, support local pollinators or simply stop to appreciate the sound of bees in the garden… every little helps. 🐝

💐 Highlighting our chosen charity - FRE&CH (Frenchay Residents Education & Community Hub)🐝

FRE&CH is a new charity established to re-purpose the former Frenchay C of E Primary School premises to provide accommodation for a pre-school (up to 50 places) and a community hub to serve the existing village and new housing development on the former Frenchay Hospital site – where there is a serious shortage of pre-school places and community services and facilities.

FRE&CH is established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and has been a registered Charity since October 2024, registration number 1210565. FRE&CH are registered for income tax ‘gift aid’ purposes.

The first phase of the preschool was opened in September 2024 and the second phase seeks to refurbish the main building by late June 2026. 40% of the main building will be converted to a community hub and café in phase three.

In addition to preschool and community facilities local NHS services are likely to be incorporated into the hub to provide midwife and health visitor facilities, work to determine their community based service needs has just begun.

Frenchay as a village has not been provided with any additional community infrastructure, despite the doubling of the population over the last four years with the old hospital site being developed as new houses.

FRE&CH was established by Frenchay Residents association following four years of campaigning to save the old school premises from commercial development, which SGC Cabinet agreed to support in November 2023.

(Funds from the Show in 2026 will be equally divided between Great Western Air Ambulance Charity and FRE&CH)

This year, alongside all of your favourite traditional classes, we’re introducing some brand new bee-themed categories to celebrate pollinators, wildflowers, and the wonderful role bees play in our gardens and countryside 🌼🍯

✨ NEW BEE-THEMED CLASSES INCLUDE✨

🐝 Handicraft
Create a handmade card including bee images and/or bee puns
(We can’t wait to see the bee-rilliant creativity!)

🌸 Flower Arranging
“A FLOWER MEADOW”
Use mainly wild, hedgerow or meadow flowers.
Accessories featuring bees, honey or hives are welcome 🐝🌾

🎨 Children’s Section
Make a model bee using ANY medium!
Cardboard, clay, LEGO, knitting, recycling materials… let imaginations fly! ✂️🐝
