As we are getting near to the end of the oyster shell tile project, I have been thinking how to record the beauty of the shells.
These macro shots of small parts of the tiles is a good start I think. The organic nature of the colours and shapes is mind bending.

We’ve been off IG a while as we have fully immersed ourselves in the current project.
We developed this tile on a small scale and have learned a great deal in the scaling up of it.
Turns out there are roughly 2680 half shells in each of the large moulds and there are 60 of them! Which equates to 160800 individually placed shells!!!
Lots of 7 day weeks recently😬
Many people have been involved in getting this done. .r.mackenzie.photography Lucy Barker Al Mackay Alex Myddleton Roman Paluch Adam Gordon

WHAT A WEEK.

On Wednesday the lovely lads from appeared at the studio to transport the ‘Multispecies table’ shell mural to the to join their collections.
The manufacture of these murals has been an ongoing delight for some years now and it is wonderful to see them going to their permanent homes.
The list of collaborators in this project is extensive. We can’t mention everyone here but we must mention who conceived of the idea to use waste restaurant bivalve shells to make art to inform communities about the value of bivalve farming vs the cost of salmon farming.
We should also mention the restaurants who have taken the time to save their bivalve shells for collection. .scot

Fun was had!
We managed to finally get TIDAL GREENS hung on the lovely staircase in Raasay community hall today. I made this artwork, designed by , entirely from shells collected from restaurants on Skye and Raasay.
I think it is a stunning place for it to reside.

This Belfast sink is formed from Skye marble terrazzo. I am extremely happy with it, as it has taken many iterations to find the correct mix.
