We’re excited to share a closer look at our latest project in the Cotswolds.

A Cotswold stone cottage, reworked through a series of carefully considered additions set into the landscape.

A series of stone additions stepping up the sloped site, keeping the original house front and centre while new elements sit quietly behind.

At MGA, we guide every stage of the journey from the first spark of an idea through to the final finishing touches, shaping designs, securing approvals, managing costs, and overseeing construction.

Our role is to translate client understanding into confident decisions about layout, materiality, and detail.

We know renovations and building projects can feel overwhelming at times. That’s why we lead the process end to end so our clients can enjoy creating their home while feeling supported at every step, with priorities and details thoughtfully managed throughout, creating homes that feel considered, cohesive, and truly exceptional.

Our approach starts with people.

We design by first understanding how you move through your home, what you value, and how spaces support daily life. That insight becomes the framework for every design decision we make.

Matthew Giles Architects is an architecture and interior design studio specialising in the delivery of private homes in the UK and internationally.

Our designs are shaped around the lives of our clients, their values, the way they live, and their aspirations. Each project is tailored, unique and bespoke, becoming a story that reflects the people who inhabit it.

We treat architecture, interiors and landscape as one seamless whole. Nothing is designed in isolation. The strongest projects consider every layer together, resulting in spaces that feel alive, connected and enduring.

The material language behind our latest proposal.

For this Beckenham home, we’ve chosen a London stock brick that’s sympathetic to the original building, helping the extension sit comfortably within its context. Subtle ribbed courses add depth and texture, offering a contemporary interpretation of the patterns found on the existing house.

It’s these considered details that allow new architecture to feel both timeless and clearly of its moment.

For this Beckenham home, our clients wanted spaces that feel closely connected to their garden and somewhere to sit inside and enjoy the sun throughout the day.

We designed a lower ground floor extension and whole house retrofit with stepped terraces that gently bridge the level change, improving daylight, views and everyday connection to the landscape. A raised garden room sits higher within the garden, creating a calm, light filled space that truly brings the outside in.

By designing around how our clients live, we create homes that feel brighter, more generous, and far more enjoyable to use.

Here are a couple of our visualisations exploring materiality. Which option would you choose? Red brick or yellow London stocks? Let us know in the comments.

Our Wimbledon project is nearing completion in its final weeks on site!

Once a historic convent for more than 30 years, the building received Change of Use approval in 2023 and has now been carefully reimagined as a modern, welcoming home for a family of five.

We’re thrilled to share the first conceptual visuals for our latest residential project!

Set in Bromley, this striking early-70s home is undergoing an ambitious extension and full retrofit. Our design centres on unifying the existing structures through a dynamic new walkway, featuring considered details such as textured hit-and-miss brickwork and bold linear concrete canopies.

The main house will be extended and retrofitted to meet our client’s needs, wrapped in a refined palette that includes green zinc cladding.

More to come as the project develops.
