With temperatures hitting record highs this week, a lot of people are discovering just how much heat can build up through windows and doors - particularly on south and west-facing elevations.

Modern glazing does not have to work against you in the heat. There is something to be said for simplicity. Sliding doors do not fold, stack or swing - they glide. The result is a clean, minimal aesthetic that suits contemporary homes particularly well, with large uninterrupted panes of glass that frame the garden like a picture. When they are closed, the view is almost as good as when they are open.

Good windows and doors are not cheap. But the cost of getting it wrong - poor installation, the wrong system, a product that does not perform as promised - tends to be far higher in the long run.

We have been doing this since 1998 and we have seen the results of rushed or underspecified jobs. Our approach is to take the time to understand what you need, recommend the right product for your situation, and install it properly.

It costs the same amount of time to do it right as it does to do it wrong. We prefer to do it right.

Windows and doors do more than let light in and frame a view. They are also one of the main lines of defence for your home.

Modern systems come with multi-point locking as standard, high-quality hardware and glazing specifications that go well beyond basic requirements. But there is still a wide range in quality between systems, and installation matters just as much as the product itself.
