Are your fire doors up to the correct spec, and secure?

A customer in Seaton contacted me because a recent fire inspection in their apartment block had noted that their door didn't have a closer fitted. I advised them on the correct type of closer and they also wanted a new mortice deadlock, and spy-hole fitted. I was able to advise them correctly and everything I fitted is compliant with current fire regulations, and is fitted with proper intumescent shielding.

As a qualified Fire Door Inspector I am able to offer the correct advice.

I've also been changing door handles for customers, for practical and cosmetic reasons.

Alongside this I've been replacing broken double glazed units and changing locks for customers.

Another week of changing locks for customers who have just moved house. Always a sensible idea to change locks when you move into a new property as this way you know where all the keys are!

I've also been sorting troublesome windows for a customer who was having problems opening and closing a number of UPVC windows in their home.

Add to this, aligning doors to function correctly, where locking and unlocking doors had become difficult.

As well as gaining entry where customers had either lost their keys or had moved to a house where they didn't have keys for certain doors.

I've also been measuring and quoting to replace blown double glazing, and fitting catflaps.

Lock changes for new home owners, failed lock mechanisms and making windows work correctly, all in a week's work for your local locksmith.

A few customers have, sensibly, opted to change their locks after recently moving house. A couple of customers chose to have British Standard 3 star cylinders fitted, locks that offer maximum protection with a 10 year manufacturer's warranty and a £2500.00 break in guarantee.

I've had a couple of customers who were having problems with locking mechanisms in their doors so I've changed these defective units. As I carry a large stock of these kinds of items on my van I can usually rectify problems on the first visit.

If your door locking system starts to feel tight, rough, grindy or you feel like you're fighting to lock and unlock your door, then please do get in touch. It is much easier, and cheaper, to fix these things before they fail (either in the locked or unlocked state).

I've also replaced some UPVC window hinges, giving the customer windows that they can now use easily and that don't have gaps around them, letting cold air in.

Windows and glazing.

A few of the jobs I've done locally this week.

A customer asked me to look at their windows as some wouldn't close properly and some had completely seized locking mechanisms. I was able to replace all the defective hinges, all of the seized locking mechanisms and serviced a couple of stiff mechanisms. The customer now has windows that function correctly and seal properly.

I've also been installing catflaps and aligning doors where they had become difficult to close and lock.

A number of lock changes in the last few days.

Customers sensibly opting for the higher security offered by AP British Standard 3 star (and Sold Secure Diamond rated) Euro cylinders.

These cylinders offer a 10 year warranty, a £2500.00 break-in guarantee and come with 5 quality keys as standard. You can also chose an internal thumbturn, and if you have more than 1 cylinder then you can have them all made to use the same key.

I've also fitted some British Standard (and Sold Secure Gold rated) 1 star cylinders.

Having good quality locks fitted can really help in beefing up your home security and as part of the fitting service I also make sure, as far as possible, that doors are aligned and functioning correctly.

I can also upgrade more 'traditional' locks on older timber doors if required.
