A pretty busy September saw me being asked to do some external painting and renovation work. This was one of them.

1. Three timber gates repaired and prepared before painting with two coats of Bedec Multi Surface Paint in a rather lovely satin black. New latches and hinges fitted as required.

2. Two metal gates were prepared by removing loose paint and rust before treatment with rust converting primer and finishing with two coats of Wilson's Paint's own black gloss Dura Tuff.

3. A door frame to an outbuilding was repaired, with the rotten wood cut out, and new timber scarfed in, glued, screwed, made good and painted. Again with Bedec Multi Surface Paint. New hinge fitted.

Another shout out to Wilsons Paints and Bedec: The Paint Company. Great service and excellent paint products.

One of yesterday's jobs was to install a water butt. I created a nice solid base for it to sit on so it doesn't move around once full of water.

Made this custom pine bookshelf. Very strong, with dowelled and glued joints. A very happy customer, even if it is my daughter! 😊

These plastic spikes are great for stopping bird mess on the swing seats. Highly recommended and can be attached with cable ties.

One of this week's jobs was fitting a security bolt to a door at St Peter's School. These security bolts with a splined key are a great way of adding a bit of extra security to an internal door, and are often used on doors separating parts of a house or on double doors between rooms, typically between a living room and dining room.

Yesterday's job was to trim the bottoms off three solid pine doors that were dragging on new thicker carpet. End result is freely-moving doors that only just clear the carpet.

Replaced a damaged socket yesterday. A faulty moulded plug on a washing machine overheated and caused burn marks and cracking to the socket face plate.

Moulded plugs cannot be checked internally or taken apart, but the metal clips that make contact with the fuse can get dirty or simply not make proper contact. Faults like this can lead to heating and is a potential fire risk. It is worth periodically checking your appliance plugs, especially on high power items such as tumble driers and washing machines. Often the sockets are behind the appliance hidden from view so faults can go unnoticed.

These moulded plugs cannot be opened up for repair, but it's an easy job to chop it off and fit a new plug.
