This kitchen floor was a bit of a doozy! The customer had had a major leak which had totally soaked their existing laminate flooring, so they asked me to lift it and tile the room instead. As soon as I started lifting the old floor it was obvious how wet and mouldy the underside of the planks, and the wood fibre underlay, still were. To the point that the underlay had to be scraped off the floor in soggy sections instead of being lifted in sheets - lovely!
So once the old flooring was lifted, the first thing to be done was to thoroughly deep clean the subfloor to kill the mould spores and prevent it from coming back. It was then left to completely dry out before I started laying the new tiles.
As the subfloor was a layer of old tiles covered in self leveller, I used the new BAL af max adhesive, which I really liked. Its formula contains rubber crumbs, removing the need for an uncoupling membrane. It was easy to use and gave a lovely, solid finished floor.
Finally the floor was grouted using the shade Jade, to match the lighter green sections of the customer's chosen tile.
And what a transformation! The tiles match the kitchen units beautifully, and the whole kitchen feels like a brand new room π
