Why are we walking?
At the heart of this event is Fife Young Carers, an organisation that supports young people up to the age of 25 who are caring for family members living with ill-health, disability, learning disabilities or substance dependency. These remarkable young people balance education, work, and their own wellbeing alongside providing essential care at home- often at great personal cost.
As the Rotary Clubs of Fife put it simply: by walking the Pilgrim Way, their members are helping to ensure that young carers are not walking alone:
How to get involved:
Whether you want to walk a stage yourself or simply support the cause from home, there are two ways to be part of this wonderful effort.
To join a stage, contact Leslie Main, President of Burntisland & Kinghorn Club by Sunday the 24th May to register your interest and indicate which stage you would like to walk. She can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone on 07718187517.
To sponsor the walkers, visit the team’s Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/team/rotary-pilgrimwaywalk, where donations to support either the whole team or individual walkers are gratefully received.
This is a wonderful opportunity to explore some of Fife’s finest countryside and heritage while making a real difference to the lives of young people across the region. Whether you walk a stage, or donate, or spread the word, your support matters.
"Walking the footsteps of Pilgrims"
The Fife Pilgrim Way follows the paths once trodden by medieval pilgrims, passing through some of the region’s most historically significant landmarks. Along the route, walkers will encounter Culross Abbey, the Friary at Inverkeithing, the ancient stone circles at Balbirnie, St Margaret’s Shrine, the iconic Forth Bridges and the magnificent St. Andrew’s Cathedral at journey’s end. It is a route rich in history, natural beauty, and a sense of shared purpose-making it a fitting backdrop for a walk in support of young people in our community.
