Total garden restoration. I have been appointed to lead a restoration of the garden of this historic property with direct links to Winston Churchill and Chartwell.

Starting with recruiting a gardening team, one for the care of the wider estate which is made up of 39 acres and one to focus on the ornamental garden. I am drawing up planting plans for the 40 plus borders, some planting will stay, quite a bit will go.

This is an exciting project, I can’t wait to see it all planted up.

Following a garden consultation in hawkhurst, a ‘problem bank’ was discussed. I came up with a planting plan and we created this new ornamental grass border a couple of weeks ago. My client is over the moon with the results.

Something a little different to end my week, I planted up the wonderful Goat Ledge cafe on St Leonard’s lower promenade. Plants must be tough to cope with the winds and sea salt.

Perennials such as rudbeckias, Sedums and Eryngium sea hollies grow well. I’ve added more of these plus some ornamental grasses and lots of Ladybird Poppies. Later on I’ll add multi coloured Delosperma and Eschscholzia to make the colours zingy and match the brightness of the place.

It’s such a lovely atmosphere, the sun came out and the crispy classic lunch was delicious!
