A large, mature oak tree was subject to a staged retrenchment prune in accordance with the approved Tree Preservation Order specification and BS3998:2010 (Tree Work – Recommendations).

The objective of the works was to emulate natural ageing processes by progressively reducing the height and spread of the upper crown, encouraging the tree to transition into a lower, more compact canopy better suited to its physiological condition. Reductions were made back to previous pruning points and suitable secondary growth, maintaining a natural secondary crown and preserving the tree’s veteran character.

All hazardous deadwood was removed to reduce risk, while safe standing deadwood was retained where appropriate to support biodiversity and habitat value.

Reduction completed this week by the team.

This sycamore had previously been heavily reduced. After discussing with the client, we advised that a sympathetic reduction would have a much lower impact on regrowth and help maintain the canopy for many more years — and it looks fantastic, if we do say so ourselves!

Due to the earlier heavy reduction, this job was particularly challenging, with spindly branches and very few suitable pruning points. Despite that, Nathan has done an exceptional job on this one. It’s a prominent tree within the village of Moulton, and we’ll take pride every time we drive through and see it standing beautifully restored.

Reduction work is one of the areas we take great pride in. This beautiful TPO-protected oak tree, located within a small private garden, had begun to overextend its branches towards the property, our planning permission was for a 4m reduction in height and a lateral reduction up to 3m, the team done a great job creating a natural shape with a challenging reduction due to way the tree had grown, and great work on the ground too light rigging to avoid the artificial grass and play areas.
