We spend our days thinking about cardiac arrest and sudden death.

So when we heard about children living with congenital heart conditions and their parents who care for them around the clock, without a break, often without any support at all, it landed differently.

Lagan's Foundation, founded by Carren Bell, gives those families a few hours back. To rest. To breathe. They're the only organisation in the UK offering this to children under five. And right now, there's a waiting list.

Naomi built a foundation that has installed over 500 defibrillators across the country and campaigned tirelessly for every police vehicle in the UK to carry one, a campaign that has already saved 25 lives.

Jamie's Law has one clear ask: every police vehicle in the UK should carry a defibrillator. Police are often the first to arrive at an emergency. If they're already on scene and equipped, those critical minutes don't have to be lost to sourcing a defibrillator from a station or a public cabinet. Every minute without defibrillation reduces survival chances by 10%, and right now those minutes are being lost to delays that could be avoided.

The case isn't theoretical. It's already working.

Jamie's story also carries a practical reminder: a public access defibrillator locked behind a gate is not a public access defibrillator. If your building, school, or workplace has one, please make sure it can be accessed by anyone who needs it, at any hour.

This campaign is already saving lives; it deserves to go further.

He's not looking at the AED.

Sitting there on a quiet April morning, phone in hand. The AED cabinet is right there, a few feet away, mounted on the wall in front of him, and he hasn't glanced at it once.

Lovely to see this photo from the Heart Smart Malta Conference 🇲🇹

George Bonello from Sidroc Services Ltd. was there showcasing their offering, including our 4000e AED cabinet, and helping raise awareness around the importance of having a defibrillator close to hand.

It's great to see conversations like this happening at events organised by the Malta Resuscitation Council. The more people know about AED access in their communities, the better.

There's a long-running debate about whether that line was inspired by CPR training mannequins; instructors have used the phrase for decades to check for responsiveness. Michael Jackson never confirmed it. But the overlap is real.
What's not up for debate: "Are you OK?" is the first thing you do in a cardiac emergency. No response, you start CPR. Immediately.
