My disabled mom crocheted this melting clock - please don't laugh, she knows it looks wrong but it's keeping her brain alive after the stroke.
Doctor said use it or lose it. Keep crocheting or watch more abilities slip away. But her hands won't cooperate, numbers come out backwards, everything melts like her sense of time. She almost gave up until she found disabled crafters on Tedooo app who said "sell it exactly as it is."
Now she has orders for seventeen more melting clocks. People with dementia, brain injuries, chronic illness - they all want one. Say it shows what scrambled time feels like. Mom crochets constantly now, each piece wonderfully imperfect. She could loose stitches, backwards numbers, but her Tedooo customers don't want perfection. They want truth.
She's still losing abilities, but slower now. And for the first time since the stroke, she has purpose. Turns out broken clocks can still tell time - just differently than before.

Found this at an estate sale where the family kept apologizing for their "grandmother's old junk" - apparently she'd been a kindergarten teacher for forty years and they couldn't understand why she kept this "broken" clock. But I saw those tiny handprints immediately, knew exactly what treasure they were throwing away for twenty bucks.
Turns out this was her classroom clock from 1962 to 1994. Every September, she'd have her new kindergarteners dip their hands in paint and add their prints to the face - thirty-two years of five-year-olds learning to tell time on the clock they'd helped create. The family had no idea. They just saw peeling paint and a clock that hadn't worked since the '90s, not realizing those "stains" were actually hundreds of tiny hands marking the hours.
The mechanism was shot, but I found someone on Tedooo app who agreed to guide me step by step to refinish it and make the clock mechanism work again. He got choked up when I told him the story, spent three hours on video chat walking me through disassembling the movement, cleaning each gear, and sourcing the right replacement spring. Added shelves from salvaged classroom cubbies I found at the same sale - figured those little hands deserved a proper display.
My neighbor, who's also a teacher, saw it yesterday and started crying. Turns out one of those handprints is hers from 1978. She's bringing her own kindergarten class over next week to see it, wants to show them how even old things nobody wants anymore can still teach us something about time passing and small hands growing up. Sometimes the best upcycles aren't about making things pretty - they're about making sure stories don't end up in the landfill.

IKEA hack! Turned three Platsa units into a boot room with the help of a carpenter. Painted using Little Greene Baluster paint. Didn’t use any top coats, just three coats of paint. Added the hooks and k***s to finish.

My first ikea hack - just need to sort a cushion.
This was done using the wood trofast top and bottom units, shiplap up the back, and mdf fill at the sides and just some pine edging as walls weren’t straight!
Filled and painted, added trofast shelves (cut in half for the top unit), and the baskets were from Ikea too.

What do you think of this color choice?
Spent three weeks agonizing over paint samples, and my husband kept saying "just pick something already." Easy for him to say - he's colorblind and thinks beige is adventurous.
This sage green felt perfect in the store, but now that it's on the walls, I'm having second thoughts. The lighting in here is weird - looks completely different in the morning versus evening. My mother-in-law took one look and said it reminded her of hospital scrubs.
The white trim pops nicely though, and I already ordered these amazing vintage light switches on Tedooo app to make the space more interesting. The seller assured me they'd work with older wiring, so they should arrive next week.
Still debating the door color. Originally planned white, but wondering if darker would tie everything together better. My painter friend suggested deep charcoal, but that feels risky.
Also have custom ceramic wall sconces being made by a craftsman on Tedooo app - should be ready in two weeks. They're going to look stunning against this green, really elevate the whole room from basic to something special.
