In Week 8, a delightful change of colours has graced our garden canvas, and the transformation is nothing short of magical! Our project is not only shaping up well but colouring in even better. Take a moment to appreciate how the new Derbyshire White gravel seamlessly complements the shades of the charming house, courtesy of Mick George. 🪴🤍

But that's not the only exciting development. We're in the midst of marking out spaces for the impending arrival of new trees next week. (Did you catch the sneak peek of my visit to Barcham Trees in my last post? If not, do check it out!) 🌳✨

Now, here's a glimpse into the intricate dance of our tasks. Each job depends on the precise sequence of others before we can move on. For instance, before finalizing the steps leading down, perfectly centred with the back sliding door, we had to ensure the area was generously coated with gravel. This strategic move spared our delicate steps from any wheelbarrow-induced damage. Smart, isn't it? 🌐🛤

As our landscape tasks slowly narrow down, we're mindful that we still need access to the garden for the upcoming tree deliveries. Once those majestic trees find their new home, we can then put the finishing touches on the entrance to the garden. It's a choreography of progress we're happily navigating. 🌳🏡

In our passion for the work, we sometimes forget to pause and capture these moments in our photos! Nevertheless, the satisfaction derived from witnessing the tangible progress keeps our spirits high and our smiles wide. We're elated by the strides we're making, and we're not slowing down anytime soon! 🌟🌿

Week 7 Update: Our Masterpiece Unveiled - All Hands on Deck! 🏡🌟

And here we are, in the midst of Week 7, with our garden masterpiece proudly standing tall! It's a moment of immense satisfaction, as our hard work has finally come to fruition. 🌳✨

But that's not all; on the very same day, we decided to tackle another exciting project. We've built spacious raised beds for our herbs right by the house, adding another layer of beauty and functionality to our garden. It's astonishing how quickly everything is unfolding, and we're finding our rhythm beautifully. 💫🌿

You see, for me, building a garden is not just about the physical work; it's about the emotions that accompany it. I need to feel a deep sense of happiness inside, a reassuring feeling that we're on the right track. My heart often serves as my compass, guiding me toward the right choices. 💚🪴

However, not everything went exactly as planned this week. I must admit, I was quite disappointed when the gravel arrived from Mick George. I had envisioned a pristine white colour, but to my surprise, it wasn't as expected. 🤔🪨

Thankfully, I'm a firm believer in finding solutions to unexpected challenges. So, on the very same day, I went on a quest to discover a better alternative, and I'm thrilled to say, I found it! And even better, Mick George was fantastic in their response. They promptly collected the three bags of gravel in the wrong colour and replaced them with the new material, and my happiness was restored! 😄🪴

The change is imminent, and you'll soon see for yourself that the gold shingle didn't quite belong. Just wait until you lay your eyes on the new gravel – it's going to be a game-changer! Stay tuned for more updates and the grand reveal! 🌞🏡🪨

In Search of Majestic Greens: A Tree Odyssey Begins! 🌳🌿

Ah, the time has come to seek out the finest arboreal wonders for our garden – an endeavor I've always held in the highest regard. Advising clients on their tree choices is a responsibility I take very seriously, and it's a deeply personal journey, too. 🌲🌟

Choosing the perfect tree isn't just about aesthetics; there's a world of considerations. It's easy to fall head over heels for the sheer majesty and beauty of these living giants, isn't it? 🌳💖

In our current project, we're weaving some magic as we plot and change the landscape to create the ideal spots for these green guardians. It's all about finding the sweet spots, and you'll have to wait and see just how we bring it to life. Here's a hint: my recent visit to Europe's largest tree nursery, Barchams Nursery, has been truly inspiring. And, can you believe it? I'm only 30 minutes away from this treasure trove of arboreal delights! 🌍🌲

At Barchams, there's a tree for every occasion, and it's all about choices. For smaller gardens, we're aiming for trees that offer not just one but two or three seasonal benefits, for wildlife and aesthetics. It's all about creating a thriving, vibrant ecosystem right in our backyard. 🌷🦋

Lately, I've developed a deep affinity for native trees and their cultivars. Why? Because choosing native species is a small yet impactful way to make a difference in the battle against climate change. It's a journey of small steps toward a greener, more sustainable future! 🌿🌎

Here we are, in Week 6 of our incredible garden transformation journey, and what a ride it's been! 🌳

Our focus this week has been on perfecting our showstopping feature, the pergola. We've already had our fair share of challenges along the way, like an unexpected encounter with a two-feet-deep, firmly-bricked obstacle. But, as you've seen from our previous updates, we've never let setbacks deter us for long. 💪🪚

Now, let me spill a little secret – I'm the one who usually has to make Stefan stop working. If I didn't, we'd both be out there with torches on our heads, crafting the garden late into the evening, because we're just that passionate about what we do! 🌙✨

And here's something incredible about Stefan – he's not just an exceptional gardener; he's also a real-life superhero. When he's not here in the garden with me, he's busy in London as a Fireman, tackling disasters and saving lives. He truly is a remarkable man, and we're incredibly fortunate to have him on our team! 🚒🦸

Week 5 Update: Pergola Adventures - Building Dreams from the Ground Up! 🌿🏗

Here we are, cruising through Week 5 of our exhilarating garden journey, and we've got something extra special in the works – our stunning pergola! 🌟

But, as you know, creating a dreamy pergola comes with its own set of challenges. Our mission? To ensure every piece falls into place like poetry. 💭

First things first – let's talk about holes. It's not just about making holes; it's about making sure they're in all the right places and large enough to cradle our heavy 15 cm x 15 cm posts, 3 m long, each weighing a whopping 54 kg. 💪🕳

And that's not all; the real magic happens beneath the surface. The slightly sloping ground adds a twist to the plot. How deep do you think we need to dig to make sure those posts stand strong for years to come? Well, the deepest we've had to go is a remarkable 60 cm, securing our pergola for a lifetime of beauty and shade. 🌱🏞

Now, here's a little secret – it might look like a breeze in pictures, but in reality, it's anything but. It's only when you put in the hours, the sweat, and the dedication that you realize the true essence of the process. I'm the digger, and Stefan, the lifter of everything. And let me tell you, he has our utmost admiration for his strength and resilience! 💪🙌

Hunting for Dreamy Plants: A Garden Adventure! 🌿🌟

On a quest for the perfect plants to adorn our project, I embarked on a little adventure to gather inspiration from none other than the master of greenery, Lucas Knoll, right in the heart of Dorset. 🌾🏞

Lucas Knoll, a champion with 10 gold medals to his name from the Chelsea Flower Show, has created an enchanting garden paradise in Dorset. What sets it apart? Ornamental grasses, as far as the eye can see! 🏅🌾

Walking through Knoll Gardens, I was utterly mesmerized by the beauty that enveloped me. Every step held the promise of inspiration, and I made a delightful decision: for our future projects, we're exclusively choosing grasses from Knoll Gardens. 🌱💫

This journey has just fueled our passion for creating exceptional green spaces that are a treat for the eyes. Stay tuned for more garden tales and green dreams coming your way! 🌷🌿

Week 3 & 4 Update: The Great Leap Forward! 🌿

Oh dear, we seem to have misplaced Week 3 somewhere between all the excitement, but we promise, there was no slacking involved - just so much action that it went missing! 🕰🌱

But we're back now, working hard as ever, making remarkable progress in our sustainable garden transformation. So, here's a whirlwind catch-up of our adventures in Weeks 3 and 4! 💪🌳

✅ No Dig Borders: More no dig borders have sprouted at the back of the garden, where the soil conditions were less than ideal. Say goodbye to poor soil; we've got this! 🌱🌍

✅ Sleepers and Smiles: Our first delivery of sleepers for building steps and posts for the pergola arrived. And guess who carried them with ease and a big smile? That's right, our very own Stefan! 😄💼

✅ Elegant Edges: We've fitted the corten steel everedge around the top borders, adding a touch of elegance to our garden design. 🌿🏡

✅ Wooden Wonders: We've introduced wooden sleepers to build the edges at the bottom part of the garden and filled them up with more nutrient-rich compost. 🌳🌱

✅ W**d Wars: We've declared war on weeds! Sloping areas are now protected with membrane to keep them at bay, making room for the beautiful plants we're planning to introduce. 🚫🌾

The garden is evolving before our eyes, taking on new shapes and definitions, and we're absolutely loving the rapid progress we're making. It's like a garden makeover on fast-forward! 🌷🌞

Week 2 Update: Unstoppable Progress! 🌱

Welcome back to our Garden Transformation Project! 🏡☀

We're diving headfirst into the makeover, and nothing – not even the hottest day of the year – can slow us down. 🌞💪

This week, we had a whopping 3000 cubic meters of compost delivered by Field Compost in one day! But guess what? We're not taking a breather.

So, what's the buzz with all that cardboard? 📦🌿

Well, it's how we are creating instant borders over the established lawn. 🌼🌱

Why cardboard, you ask? 🤔

It's a revolutionary approach known as the No Dig method, championed by the amazing Charles Dowding. 💡🌍

This eco-friendly technique enhances soil quality without disrupting its structure. It's a win-win, as it improves water retention and keeps those pesky weeds at bay. 🌧🌿

We're committed to making this garden a haven for wildlife, ecologically sound, and climate change-friendly. 🦋🌎
