The main risk on a scheme like this is delay.

When drainage or ecology conditions are not resolved properly, the project can stall at discharge stage and create extra work later.

By handling the technical detail early, we helped fully discharge the conditions and gave the client a clearer route forward. That reduces uncertainty and makes delivery easier.

We delivered:
• Technical packs
• Maintenance plans
• BRE Digest 365 soakaway design
• Native hedgerows
• Bat and bird boxes
• Contractor-ready delivery information

All conditions were fully discharged. For the client, that meant a clearer route through planning and less risk of delay. For the contractor, it meant a package that was ready to build and easier to deliver on site.

Why multi-plot sites need landscape, drainage, and ecology joined up early.

Multi-plot sites can look straightforward, but they often carry a lot of hidden risk.

If landscaping, drainage, and ecology are not coordinated early the project can run into delays at discharge stage and create problems for delivery later on.

This is why technical landscape thinking matters from the start. It helps keep the site compliant, practical, and easier to build.

Why this reduced risk for the project team.

When privacy, drainage, and compliance all need to work together, the risk of delay goes up fast.

By resolving the layout and technical details early, we helped create a clearer route through planning and reduced the chance of avoidable changes later on.

For the client and contractor, that meant less uncertainty and a smoother path to approval.

How often do privacy, drainage, and compliance issues slow a project down if they’re not resolved early?

When landscape design is unclear, the cost is usually paid later on site.

This project was about removing that risk early. By resolving layout, drainage, ecology, and detail issues up front, we helped discharge all planning conditions successfully and avoided the kind of issues that can slow a project down in construction.

For contractors, that means less rework, fewer surprises, and a smoother handover.

RAF Wyton Outdoor Social & Welfare Pavilion

The project needed to create a durable outdoor social space next to the Junior Ranks Mess. It had to work for standing gatherings, seated use, and year-round shelter within a structured military setting.

What we delivered:
• Hard landscape layouts
• Level coordination
• Detailed structural positioning
• Spatial planning for committee approval
• Contractor-ready layout drawings
• Coordinated seating integration
• Phased installation capability

We designed a robust timber pavilion with integrated bench seating, a raised deck platform, and clear social zones. Structured hedged boundaries were used to create enclosure, improve usability, and soften the built form.

How do you see landscape design supporting delivery, not just appearance?

I think good residential landscape work should make a site easier to deliver.

It should help with drainage, support compliance, and still leave the developer with a scheme that looks good and works in practice.

When that happens, the landscape is not just a finish. It becomes part of the project’s success.

How we approach welfare and social landscape projects.

We start by understanding how the space needs to be used.

For RAF Wyton, that meant planning for standing gatherings, seated use, and year-round shelter, then shaping the pavilion, deck, seating, and boundary planting around those needs.

Our aim is always to make the space practical first, then detailed enough for delivery.

The project delivered a practical welfare asset that improved social cohesion, outdoor usability, and long-term durability in a disciplined institutional environment

Our approach to drainage-aware landscape design.

We start by looking at how the site will move and function. For Redhill, that meant shaping circulation clearly, setting out planting zones, and building in drainage thinking from the beginning.

Once the structure was clear, we prepared the technical package needed for discharge and delivery. The aim was to keep the design practical, compliant, and easy for the contractor to build.

Ecological masterplanning for a forest school.

The project needed to create a forest school campus that supported outdoor learning, protected the woodland setting, improved biodiversity, and kept movement around the site clear. It also had to work as part of a planning submission and stay sensitive to the existing landscape.

We developed an organic masterplan that brought together outdoor classrooms, a natural amphitheatre, woodland trails, sensory play zones, meadow clearings, and conservation corridors. The layout was designed to support learning and play while keeping the woodland character intact.

What we delivered:
• Planning-stage landscape masterplan drawings
• Stakeholder workshop input
• Coordination with architects, ecologists, and arborists
• Woodland paths, compacted gravel trails, and controlled drainage routes
• Wildflower meadows, native planting corridors, pond enhancement, and hibernacula integration
• A phased, buildable implementation framework
