The Law: In the UK, it is illegal for anyone not Gas Safe registered to work on gas appliances or pipework.

A "Gas Safe Registered Engineer" (or licensed gasfitter) is authorised to work on gas boilers, cookers and fires.

Can they do both? Yes, many professionals are qualified as both a plumber and a Gas Safe engineer, but you should never assume a plumber has the gas license.

The Risk: Improperly installed gas lines can cause leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
