High winds don’t always bring trees down straight away — sometimes they leave hidden damage behind.

This Pine at Kent University in Canterbury had suffered damage following the recent high winds and required removal to keep the area safe.

The tree was safely felled, processed on site and the area left clear and tidy.

Tree tip: After strong winds, check for hanging branches, new cracks, leaning stems or movement around the base of a tree.

Need advice after wind damage? We’d be happy to help.

Pollarding works carried out in Canterbury today.

We pollarded a Eucalyptus and re-pollarded a Sycamore to manage regrowth, reduce crown weight and keep both trees in a suitable shape for their surroundings.

Tree fact: Eucalyptus are fast-growing trees and often benefit from regular management to keep them under control.

Unsure whether a tree needs managing or removing? We’re always happy to advise.

Today we carried out a re-pollard of an Ash tree in Boughton-under-Blean.

Re-pollarding helps manage regrowth, maintain the structure of the tree and reduce excess weight within the crown as the new growth develops over time.

Ash trees across Kent continue to be heavily affected by Ash Dieback, making regular inspection and ongoing management increasingly important.

Another tree safely managed and retained for the future 🌳

Lime tree pollarding carried out at Kent University in Canterbury.

The client originally contacted us regarding a mature Lime tree which had started to lift. After assessing the tree, removal was considered, but we recommended pollarding instead — allowing the tree to be retained while reducing weight and leverage.

Lime trees are extremely resilient and respond very well to pollarding when managed correctly, making this a great option where retention is preferred over removal.

A good result all round — the tree has been made safer, retained on site, and given the chance to continue growing for years to come.

Thinking about having tree work carried out or unsure whether a tree can be retained? We’d be happy to advise.

Hedge repair carried out in Canterbury, Kent.

A Hawthorn hedge had been knocked over after being struck by a vehicle. As the root system was still largely intact, we attempted to retain the hedge rather than remove it.

The height was reduced to remove weight before carefully repositioning the hedge and supporting it with stakes and tree ties.

With the roots still established, the added support should help the hedge recover and re-establish into a strong boundary.

Tree fact: Hawthorn hedges are extremely resilient and can often recover well from damage if the root system remains intact and the plant is properly supported.

Plum tree removal carried out today in Canterbury.

The tree had begun to decline, so it was dismantled and removed from the garden.

The neighbouring property kept the timber, which is great to see as it can be recycled and used as firewood later this year.

Tree fact: Plum trees generally don’t respond well to heavy pruning. Hard cut-backs can leave them vulnerable to disease, which is why careful pruning and good timing are important when managing fruit trees.

Thinking about having some tree work done? We’d love to hear from you.

Cedar removal carried out today in Canterbury.

Unfortunately the tree had been planted too close to the property and was beginning to cause issues with the surrounding roots, so removal was the best option.

We first dismantled the front of the tree to prevent branches damaging the lawn before safely felling the remaining stem.

The timber was kept in large sections so it can later be milled and reused.

If you’re thinking about having any tree work done, we’d love to hear from you.
