Planning approval for this double storey extension in Canterbury.

The property sits rotated within its site creating an awkward relationship between house and garden. The extension instead realigns with the plot and neighbouring buildings creating a stronger connection to the garden and interesting geometries to the new spaces.

Completed project.

This full-house renovation and double-storey rear extension transforms a 1930’s property within the Canterbury Conservation Area into a calm, modern family home. The design combines Scandinavian-inspired timber cladding and brickwork along with salmon orange glazing.

Inside, the extension and renovation focuses on warmth and simplicity drawing on Scandinavian, Korean and American influences.

The natural material palette includes ash flooring and joinery, microcement, pink marble and a bespoke terrazzo created using the marble offcuts to create a calm and functional family home.

The project delivers significant environmental upgrades, including insulation, windows, solar panels and an air source heat pump. The design also includes a fully concealed and integrated smart home system controlling lighting, blinds, audio, heating and cooling.

Practical completion visit yesterday to this project near Faversham. It will look fantastic when spring arrives and the wildflower meadow roof terrace comes to life.

The project involved the complete transformation and renovation of an awkward old bungalow in a beautiful rural location to create a modern 4 bed 3 bath home. A rear extension provides an open kitchen space and an upwards loft extension creates a master bedroom suite with roof terrace overlooking the Oare Marshes and the Isle of Sheppey.
