A concept proposal for a contemporary family home in Cumbria, designed to evolve with the changing needs of its occupants. The scheme explores a balance between open-plan living and more defined, flexible spaces, including dedicated areas for work and quieter retreat.

Sustainability is embedded within the design approach, with the integration of solar panels, battery storage, and air source heat pumps to support long-term efficiency and comfort. The layout and orientation have been carefully considered to capture key views across the surrounding countryside, while maintaining a sensitive relationship with neighbouring properties.

A considered architectural concept that responds to modern family life, adaptability, and its wider setting.

We’re pleased to share this completed project in Alderley Edge, featuring a redesigned entrance and hallway together with a contemporary rear extension.

The extension introduces a distinctive zigzag roof form, finished in dark zinc cladding with warm timber soffits. Large sliding doors and expansive glazing open the living spaces onto a natural stone terrace, strengthening the connection between the house and garden.

The design provides a confident contemporary addition while sitting alongside the existing red brick architecture of the original home.

Great to see real progress on site at our barn conversion project in Curthwaite, with construction now well underway.

This scheme transforms two traditional stone barns, one becoming a two-bedroom annex, the other forming a contemporary extension to the existing farmhouse, carefully balancing modern living with the character of the original buildings.

Sharing a side-by-side comparison of our CGI visuals alongside current site photos, it’s rewarding to see the design vision beginning to take shape in the built form.
The project focuses on retaining the rural identity of the site while introducing light-filled spaces, thoughtful detailing and a contemporary approach that sits comfortably within its countryside setting.

We’re looking forward to sharing further updates as the build progresses.

PLANNING SUBMITTED - 21 Lowther Street, conversion from offices to flats.

21 Lowther Street is a Grade II listed mid-19th-century commercial building of overall high heritage significance within the Carlisle Conservation Area. Constructed in 1853 for banking use, it retains key characteristics of typical banking architecture, including ashlar stone construction, classical detailing, and a prominent corner presence.

The building’s significance derives primarily from its high aesthetic value and moderate to high historical value, reflecting the commercial development of Lowther Street. Its evidential value is moderate, largely expressed through the survival of its external fabric, while its communal value is low to moderate, stemming from its long-standing commercial use.

Overall, significance is principally embodied in the building’s external architectural quality, landmark townscape role, and positive contribution to the Conservation Area.

Four thoughtfully designed homes in the sought-after village of Culgaith.

This concept design draws influence from the proportions and presence of classical vicarages, using natural stone, strong gables and simple forms to create a confident, understated appearance. Inside, the homes open up to light-filled contemporary living spaces, with the layout and landscaping arranged to give each property its own sense of arrival and privacy.

In the picturesque village of Bolton in the Eden Valley, we designed an exclusive development of four contemporary homes that embrace modern rural living.
Each home is positioned on a generous plot to capture stunning countryside views, offering a perfect blend of luxury and low-maintenance convenience for families seeking a high-quality home near Appleby, Penrith, and the Lake District National Park.
Completed to a high specification, each property features premium fixtures and fittings and a well-designed layout with spacious, light-filled rooms that marry elegance with practicality. Homes of this caliber in such a desirable location are rare, and we’re proud to deliver residences that showcase exceptional attention to detail.
This development reflects our commitment to quality, merging modern comfort with the peaceful beauty of the Eden Valley.

Exciting progress at our Lanercost project – planning approved and construction well underway!

We’re delighted to see this replacement dwelling now taking shape on site, following successful planning approval.

This project has always been about balance: respecting its rural setting and heritage influence from the priory, while delivering a contemporary, high-performing family home. Traditional materials sit alongside modern elements such as zinc detailing and expansive glazing, creating a design that feels both grounded and forward-looking.

A landscape-led approach has shaped the layout from day one, protecting existing trees, enhancing privacy, and strengthening the site’s natural character.

Inside and out, the focus has been on light, views, comfort, and long-term sustainability. With renewable technologies and high thermal standards, the home is designed to perform just as well as it looks.

Seeing months of design work take physical form on site is always rewarding!

Our Watermillock project, nestled within the picturesque Lake District, is now complete. The dwelling has been carefully designed to reflect the Lake District National Park’s distinctive local character, ensuring it both respects and enhances its immediate landscape setting. Its modest massing creates a low-profile form that settles comfortably into the terrain, in dialogue with surrounding woodland and long views.

The architecture draws on traditional Lakeland cues while embracing contemporary living. Local stone and timber cladding ground the home in its context; a simple rectangular plan and courtyard arrangement lend a steading-like character, sheltered from the elements and connected to nature.

Internally, open-plan living spaces frame views and draw daylight deep into the home. An internal herb garden blurs the threshold between inside and out, bringing landscape experience into the centre of daily life. Ridge line glazing minimises visible openings on the southern elevation, while concealed solar panels and roof lights preserve the integrity of the building’s profile.

We have had the pleasure of designing the conversion of a bank barn and attached farm into two dwellings in the heart of the Lake District.

We were appointed to undertake the design of both properties, along with undertaking technical design and tendering the project.

The brief was determined to encompass the natural materials and beautiful structure of the existing buildings. We enhanced these with the positioning of additional glazing that was sensitive to the visual impact of the locality but effective at flooding the rooms with light and out looking views towards Hellvelyn.
