At this point, Geraint doesn't even ask what I'm doing anymore. He just walks in, sees (and smells π) a bowl of grass spinning in the microwave and let's me carry on π€£
Why?
Well its not because I've finally lost the plot (debatable), but because I'm actually trying to work out the dry matter of the silage before we decide whether to pick it up from the field.
Dry matter is so important when thinking about our cows diets and our grass. We ideally want it around 30-35% Dry Matter for a good quality silage for winter feed!
Normally this might mean mowing the grass and leaving it in rows to dry out for a day or so... but this grass I have just tested... is still being mowed!
It's coming down dry!
Several days of baking sun π might have something to do with it π€£
But with rain π§ forecast next week, the race is on to get the grass off and the slurry on in time for all the goodness to be used to grow some more grass to feed the cows through winter π©βπΎπ¨βπΎ
