Beautiful old cotswold cottage restoration project

What a transformation this beautiful old cottage has been. From badly blown paintwork, rotten timber, tired brickwork and ironwork that hadn’t been touched in over 20 years, we knew from day one this was going to be one of the most challenging exterior projects we’ve ever taken on.

Every inch of preparation mattered on this job, and restoring the original woodwork to the standard you see in the finished photos took every bit of skill, patience and experience we’ve gained over the years.

We’re incredibly proud of the finish achieved here, and even during the preparation stages we had so many passers-by stopping to comment on the care and detail going into the work. Most importantly, the client is absolutely delighted with the end result — and so are we.

The scaffold is finally down and we can properly stand back and admire this beautiful period property in all its glory ✨

Every detail has come together perfectly, and all the hard work, time, and effort we’ve put in has truly paid off. But don’t just take our word for it — our clients are absolutely over the moon with the finish! They’ve told us they’ve already received countless compliments from neighbours and passers-by, which is always amazing to hear.

It’s projects like this that make what we do so rewarding. Seeing a property restored and looking this pristine again is something we take real pride in.

We recently had the pleasure of taking on this external project after the clients saw a job we completed just two houses up. They told us, in their own words, “we didn’t get any other quotations in – we had to use you.” That kind of trust means everything to us.

Now, as you can see from these before pictures… the property was in a seriously poor state. Once we scraped everything back, it revealed extensive blown render, with some areas going right back to the brickwork. For many, this would be a major setback — but for us, it’s all part of the process.

With the right skills, experience, and techniques, we were able to rebuild and restore the structure properly, ensuring everything was solid, secure, and built to last. Preparation is always key, and this job was a perfect example of why we never cut corners.

Stay tuned for the after photos… where you’ll see just how we’ve transformed this once tired, dated, and weather-worn façade into something truly special. Not only is it now fully weatherproofed, but we’ve also reinstated the beautiful period property lines — bringing character and life back to the home with a clean, sharp, and long-lasting finish.

This project came to us through a recommendation from a previous client who spoke very highly of our work. Word of mouth continues to be the main source of work for Flood Painters & Decorators, and we’re always incredibly grateful when our clients trust us enough to recommend us to others.

This is one of the biggest jobs we’ve taken on so far this year. The first phase was completed in February, although we weren’t able to fully finish at the time due to the large canopy area beneath the property.

The work involved a huge amount of canopy woodwork, along with several very difficult areas to access because of the wisteria growing around the structure. Even though it had been cut back, many of the branches were still in place, meaning we had to carefully navigate around them in some very awkward positions while carrying out the preparation work.

As you can imagine, preparation was extensive. There were areas of rotten wood that needed attention, along with a great deal of sanding, filling, and restoring the surfaces before any paint could be applied. The property also had many windows, doors, and frames, and the client specifically asked if we could remove all of the old paint from the hinges to reveal the original brass underneath. This was a painstaking process, but the results were well worth it.

As you can see from the photos, we take preparation extremely seriously. Every crack we could find was opened up and properly filled, and all loose or blown paintwork was thoroughly scraped back before we began rebuilding the surfaces. It’s this level of care and attention to detail that ensures a long-lasting, high-quality finish.

The client told us she certainly wasn’t let down by the recommendation, which is always fantastic to hear. We’re now scheduled to return to complete the rest of the exterior painting and decorating, which will be one of our biggest projects of the year.

I’ve been lucky enough to work for some repeat clients for over 10 years now, and this project is another one for the books. Although this is a new house, the clients are refurbishing throughout, and I’ve just completed the kitchen and dining room to the highest of standards.

As with all my work, there was extensive filling and sanding to get every surface absolutely right before any paint went on. I applied a minimum of 3 coats to all areas, using premium Farrow & Ball paint, to achieve a flawless, durable finish. The end result speaks for itself — not a single blemish to be found.

Once again, my clients are over the moon with the finish and have said how easy it is to recommend a tried and trusted painter and decorator they know they can rely on. Feedback like that never gets old and is exactly why I take such pride in what I do.
