Cherry Haye, Heswall

Planning permission was recently secured for the complete transformation of Cherry Haye, a detached property in Heswall. The approved scheme overhauls the existing house through a combination of double-storey, single-storey and front extensions, extensive external alterations, and a new loft floor created using attic trusses.

The project reworks the entire structure and elevates the architectural presence of the original dwelling, while remaining sensitive to its setting and neighbours. Planning officers supported the scale and design approach, noting no adverse impact on local character or amenity.

With construction already well underway, we’re looking forward to seeing this ambitious project continue to take shape in 2026.

Tower Cottage, Cheshire

Planning permission has been granted at appeal for a series of contemporary extensions to this sandstone cottage, located in the greenbelt and near a locally listed water tower. The proposals introduce a new first floor extension, a glazed link, and a large single-storey addition.

In allowing the appeal, the Inspector concluded that the design would remain “sufficiently subordinate” to the original building and praised the lightweight glazed connection for maintaining a clear visual hierarchy. The choice of materials was also commended for complementing the existing cottage and reinforcing the distinction between old and new.

Importantly, the scheme was found to preserve the setting of the nearby heritage asset, with no harm to views of the water tower, a locally significant structure by Alfred Waterhouse.

Chester Zoo, Chester

Evoke Architecture is proud to have been providing RIBA Stages 2-5 for a landmark project that will soon become part of the wider Chester Zoo Resort, scheduled to open next year. It’s the first time we have had to include Giraffes in our CGI images - and hopefully not the last!

Working alongside the project encompasses over 50 modular holiday lodges and hospitality buildings.

The lodges are being constructed using innovative off-site manufacturing techniques, ensuring minimal environmental and ecological impact. This approach also maintains the quiet, tranquil environment essential for the well-being of the zoo’s animal residents. The final design strikes a balance between sustainability and aesthetic appeal, enhancing the resort experience while respecting the natural surroundings.

We are grateful to Chester Zoo and Starship for entrusting us with this unique project, and we look forward to its successful completion.
