Every day, through living with Jason and being right on the border with Wales, speaking with people and getting to know the country far and wide over these eight years since I came to the UK, I’ve come to realise just how close they are to me — in spirit, at heart, and even in nature. I truly love this country and its people. As my husband often says, “You’re becoming half Welsh now…” Well, perhaps one third — the other part is Bulgarian, and the last one Arab. What a lovely mix, isn’t it? :)
And by the way, I love Wales for another reason too — there’s so much in common between Bulgaria and Wales. Not just the flags — both white, green and red, one with a Lion and the other with a Dragon — but also the people: mountain folk, peaceful, wise, wonderful. Two nations that have endured, no matter who tried to crush them; proud, strong, and resilient. I’m proud of them both! May they live on forever! Amen!

Dafydd Iwan Jones is a Welsh singer and nationalist politician who rose to fame writing and performing folk music in the Welsh language. From 2003 to 2010, Iwan was the president of Plaid Cymru, a political party which advocates for Welsh independence from the UK.
