HNW Architects are an RIBA Chartered multi-disciplinary practice, based in Chichester, West Sussex, able to undertake projects throughout the United Kingdom. For architectural services the Practice, in addition to the four architect directors, comprises five associates, a further six architects, four architectural assistants, seven architectural technologists and two administrative staff. Equipped

with the latest computer aided design technology, including the use of BIM (Revit), which we use comprehensively for design presentation and construction information, we are able to offer our clients a range of technical support, including 3D visualization, walk-throughs and presentations. The full integration of the development process through support technology enables a far better understanding of the project at the early stage, forming the basis for appropriate visual impact assessments and assisting the planning process. The preparation of comprehensive masterplans and facilities management for larger sites with a complex mixture of uses forms a significant part of the workload and the Practice has valuable experience in this field. We also have considerable experience of working within conservation areas, with listed buildings and the sensitive social, economic and environmental issues identified by the Local Agenda 21 Objectives and ‘BREEAM’ energy assessment methods.

Last night, HNW Architects were once again thrilled to sponsor and judge the University of Brighton School of Architecture's 'Sustainable Social Legacy' Awards.

It was a pleasure to meet the shortlisted students, hear them present their work and discuss their ideas, research and ambition behind their projects. The quality of work on display was exceptional, making the judging process both inspiring and challenging.

Our 'Sustainable Social Legacy' Awards recognise projects that demonstrate environmental ambition, social value, inclusivity and a commitment to creating adaptable, resilient places that will benefit future generations.

Congratulations to this year's award recipients:
Undergraduate (BArch) Winner – Eirene Kiaritha
Postgraduate (MArch) Highly Commended – Lauren Goodchild
Postgraduate (MArch) Winner – Harry Wesley

A huge congratulations to all the students who presented. The depth of thinking, creativity and commitment to addressing complex social and environmental challenges gives real confidence in the future of our profession.

Supporting architectural education remains an important part of HNW's commitment to the industry. Alongside our continued involvement with the University of Brighton, we are proud to support students through mentoring, crits, mock interviews, work experience and careers engagement across the South East.

Thank you to the School of Architecture for inviting us to be part of another inspiring evening.

Yesterday saw another excellent South East Construction Breakfast, co-hosted by DHA Planning Group, HNW Architects, MacConvilles and Morgan Sindall Construction at the Amex in Brighton.

This session focused on “value” and “early engagement” across projects, looking at how clients, consultants, contractors and wider project teams can contribute earlier in the process. Through round table discussions and feedback to the room, the conversation explored where value is lost, what good early engagement should look like, and what we can realistically do differently in the local market.

A few key themes stood out. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Every project, client, brief and procurement route is different. People are generally trying to do the right thing, but better understanding and respect between the different parties, and the value each brings, would help projects progress more effectively. A recurring point was the need to define what “value” actually means for each project. Is it (just?) cost, time, durability, quality, certainty, flexibility, or a balance of all of these?

The briefing stage was also a major theme. RIBA Stages 0-1 are often overlooked or compressed, which can lead to an undefined brief, differing assumptions and a lack of clarity that only grows as the project develops. Getting the right people around the table from the outset is essential in defining the brief everyone understands, and then needs to work to. Ultimately, it is all about communication.

A huge thank you to Richards from Birketts for expertly chairing the discussion, and to everyone who joined us and contributed so openly and we look forward to continuing these discussions at future South East Construction Breakfast events.

Supporting the next generation of architects and designers is hugely important to us as a practice and the profession more widely, alongside building strong relationships with schools and universities.

Over recent months, we have continued to be actively involved in the RIBA Future Architects mentoring programme with students from the University of Brighton and the University of Portsmouth.

Last week, we were pleased to welcome Part I students from the University of Portsmouth to Project Opus at Adanac Park for a live site visit in collaboration with Overbury.

With the project due for completion this summer, the visit gave students the opportunity to see the reality of drawn studio and design work being built firsthand, and gaining insight into the wider consultant and contractor team roles that help make projects possible.

A big thank you to Overbury for helping organise and accommodate the visit, and all the very best to all students as they near the final stages of their studies.

Growing in London!

We’re pleased to be expanding our London studio.

This is an important step for HNW Architects, building on the momentum of recent project successes and the continued strengthening of our presence in the capital since opening our Victoria studio.

It also reflects a wider journey for HNW. From our established base in Chichester, to the opening of our Brighton & Hove studio almost five years ago, and now a growing London team — a huge thank you to our dedicated team, loyal clients and partners who continue to make this possible.

We’re looking forward to what comes next.

15/05/2026

Yesterday afternoon and evening, our teams from across the Brighton & Hove, Chichester, and London studios came together to share practice updates, spend time together socially, and support the important work of the Architects Benevolent Society.

As part of ABS’s “Bake the World a Better Place” campaign, we held a cupcake decorating challenge — with creativity, fun and healthy competition on show.

A well-deserved win for Callum, whose design stood out from the crowd.

A very enjoyable way to bring the whole team together while supporting an important cause.

Construction is progressing well at Waterloo Park, Hampshire, with the steel frame up for the new Aldi UK store and groundworks advancing across the remainder of Phase 2.

HNW Architects have been involved in the wider redevelopment of this brownfield site from masterplanning through to outline consent for Hargreaves, and are now delivering the detailed design for the current phase on site alongside Mildren Construction Limited.

The scheme forms part of a wider three-phase strategy to unlock the site for a mix of retail and commercial uses, carefully structured to respond to infrastructure and viability constraints.

Phase 2, due for completion later this year, will deliver a sustainable new anchor food retail store alongside drive-through units for Costa Coffee and KFC, further establishing Waterloo Park as a key roadside and local amenity destination.

The wider masterplan has been designed to allow future phases to respond flexibly to occupier demand, including potential for employment-generating uses such as light industrial and storage, while ensuring each phase can be delivered independently. We look forward to seeing Phase 2 continue to take shape over the coming months.

Thank you to the Mildren team for the site drone photos!
