When a home renovation reaches this level of detail, it is rarely just about choosing finishes. The bigger challenge is often behind the scenes, making decisions early, keeping each process aligned, and making sure one choice does not create three problems later.

This flat had a limited footprint, but the design had to make the most of the available space. Bespoke joinery divides the bedroom from the dressing area; walnut joinery and storage define the living space, and a storage cabinet was transformed into a sleek bar area with glass-front cabinets, wine fridges, and slimline storage. Engineered walnut herringbone flooring, layered lighting, and richer textures tie everything together while creating a space that makes everyday routines feel easy.

What makes a space work really well often comes down to the details guests rarely see but will always feel. Here, the removal of the old fish counter allowed the entire ground floor to be reconfigured around how the restaurant operates. The full rip-out and structural work made it possible to relocate plumbing and electrics, while the floor was reinforced to support the new stainless-steel bar. The design now centres around a bar and dining area designed to support efficient service without losing the relaxed atmosphere that regular customers value. Delivered within a four-week programme, it is a space that works harder behind the scenes while still feeling comfortable to spend time in.

When people talk about a renovation, most imagine choosing different materials, colours, and finishes. Usually, it’s the things around it that become harder: coordinating timelines, making endless decisions, and trying to keep everything moving at the same time. For this master bedroom and ensuite bathroom transformation, the focus stayed on creating a quieter retreat within a family home. A soft tonal palette and bespoke joinery, including integrated staircase storage and a wardrobe, helped the bedroom feel calm and functional, while layered textiles and lighting added warmth without overwhelming the space. In the ensuite, wood-effect finishes and warm metallic details brought a more relaxed, spa-like feel, with materials chosen to support everyday family life. When everything is thought through together from the beginning, the home tends to feel easier to live in long after the work is finished.

A garage was completely reworked into an entertainment suite connected back to the living room, with new stud walls, floor levelling, underfloor heating, and rerouted plumbing, gas, and electrics all needing to work together from the beginning.

A project like this renovation can quickly become more complex than expected, especially once layout constraints, storage, lighting, heating, and structural changes all start overlapping in one space. By planning each element together from the start, the space was able to function properly as part of the home rather than feeling like a separate add-on.

Herringbone-pattern engineered walnut flooring and joinery add character and comfort throughout the space, with 3D walnut cladding wrapping the staircase and bar fronts, alongside storage for the family’s album collection, a turntable nook, wine fridge, and concealed lighting. From the outside, it still looks like a garage. Inside, it becomes a place for music, hosting friends, or spending time together with family.

This bedroom is framed by bespoke joinery and an integrated bedside cabinet, making the start and end of the day feel more settled. In the living space, floor-to-ceiling walnut joinery, brass detailing, stone tops, bifold doors, and open shelving create a room that can shift easily from focused work, to switching off, or hosting friends in the evening.

In the kitchen space, a glass-front cabinet adds another layer of storage and character, keeping essentials close without crowding the room. The joinery is thoughtfully crafted for the flat, making each part of the home work harder, whether it’s getting ready in the morning, clearing the space before people arrive, or putting things back at the end of the day.

Before a project like this begins, the pressure is often already there: timelines, different trades, structural work, and the challenge of making big changes without losing what people already love about the space. At Fish Union in Chislehurst, the brief was to completely rework the ground floor, remove the old fish counter, reinforce the floor for a bespoke stainless-steel bar, relocate plumbing and electrics, and create a restaurant and champagne bar that still felt familiar to regulars, all within four weeks.

Occhio's modular lighting system helped shift the atmosphere through the day, combining ambient, task, and accent lighting around service, while the open bar design created a more natural space for the guests to converse. The space now feels ready for its next chapter, somewhere people drop into casually and end up staying longer than planned.

Our clients wanted a garden that could be used comfortably throughout the year, not just on warm days, so the covered seating area was designed as the heart of the space. It creates a cosy, practical place for slower mornings, evenings with friends, and weekends spent outside with family.

Layered planting schemes add character, while walkways help the different zones connect naturally. Lighting was carefully thought through, too, keeping the garden welcoming and functional after dark.

Designed in collaboration with Lucy Welsh, the space brings together garden design, thoughtful craftsmanship, and full project management to create an outdoor setting that works beautifully for everyday use and time spent together.
