Another stunning custom slate hearth coming out of the workshop this morning.

This one has been cut to the customers very specific requirements, is honed (polished) and from our 30mm thick graphite slate.

Turned around within a week and on it's way to Dundee this afternoon!

We managed ANOTHER 5* review! And this one with a bit of a tale to it.....

On the day our customer was due to receive their delivery, we received this message from our haulier:

"I’m afraid we managed a mix up at our depot last night and the wrong label was put on this pallet, meaning it went out to someone who was expecting a large bag of cockles and your customer has instead received said cockles.
I’ve spoken with the delivery depot who will pick up the incorrect goods so they won’t be inconveniencing your customer and we are entering a reroute for your pallet to get to her for tomorrow"

We've had good run recently with our honed (polished) graphite slate, mostly for use as hearths, but also some fireplace surrounds and bathroom vanity units.

The process of honing basically grinds off the top surface layer, usually exposing spectacular patterns like these. The finished "feel" of the slate is almost glasslike.

We're blown away with how good these look.

If you're interested in a piece of slate for a hearth, worktop, window cill or something else, we can cut pieces up to 2 metres wide, and deliver anywhere in the country, usually within a week.

Stock alert!

Especially for our trade customers, we now have just ONE crate (20 pieces) of 1200 x 900 x 20mm Brazilian graphite slate remaining in stock, until new stock arrives in April.

Apparently there are rumours of issues with supply from Brazil. Hmmm, that depends....

This was last Friday. Yes, it is technically rainy season over there right now, so it's been a little moist recently.

But if you deal with the right people, who happen to be old friends, who have been quarrying for over 30 years, and they care about what they do, AND their customers, well, things are good!

Outdoor living…..with slate worktops.

You’ve got an outdoor space? Good. You’re planning to spend some time out there with family, friends, or those neighbours with their "bowl for the keys”? That’s good too, we won’t judge.

You have a space to socialise, to light up the BBQ, the pizza oven, or that Cohiba you’ve been saving for that “special occasion? Again, good, good and indeed good. And now, you’ve landed here, so let’s chat about it….

Slate, it really is perfect for this space. Hard wearing. Rugged, yet practical. Beautifully individual and unique, just like yourself. Easy to clean and quite thick. Again, just like….erm, never mind.

We source all our slate direct from a single source quarry in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

It comes in pieces measuring as large as two metres long and in a variety of widths, from a worktop standard of 600mm right up to 900mm. We will cut it to exactly what size you need and finish whatever edges and joints are required. We can cut angles, curves, holes for taps, sinks and drainage grooves. Oh, and we’ll deliver anywhere in the UK, usually within a week.

Want a rough idea of cost? Not a problem. We just need some basic overall dimensions, and maybe a rough drawing of the layout. And your postcode.

There’s no hard sell from us; we’ll work out a price usually the same day and email it to you. No pressure. No push. Heck, we might even send you a free sample piece if you ask nicely.

Is it just me who finds it very therapeutic watching four square metre chunks of slate being popped out of the ground at the quarry in Brazil?

I reckon these are around 30 centimetres thick
