Overthinker, Influenced, Charity Shop Search Party?

Consumption.

This post has been rolling over and over in my mind.

And whilst I was leading up to a ‘move into my house with me’…luteal phase struck PMDD style

This morning after dropping my youngest daughter off at preschool, I climbed back into bed with carbs and caffeine and created this carousel

Imperfectly perfect week in our home

Our builder took a holiday, we took the opportunity to move in, with full knowledge it wouldn’t be complete.

What’s this week looked like?
Temporary homes for items
Make do and mend
Bathe upstairs use the bathroom sink downstairs
Doorless kitchen cupboards
Garden chairs as dining chairs
Travel black out blinds in our bedrooms

Settling
Coming home to ourselves
Reconnecting with our community

With love
cold toes warm hearts

These lamps have been giving me the ick for too long!

I’m not even sure the charity shop would want them 🫠

What item have you considered donating and on second thoughts… 💭

They had water marks, cracked plastic lamp shade, paint on the base from my previous painting & decorating at who knows what house 😆

With no lightbulbs in multiple rooms atm, and I’m not even sure I’d use the BIG light, I opted to give these a new look.

Better than recycling?
And of course, our wallets are empty!

With some leftover from the downstairs open plan space, I took about 5 mins to paint these. Not my most careful work, but I’ll be happier not stubbing my toe on the bed frame 😅

T-minus 0. We’re home.

I won’t pretend it’s not chaos. But we’re here.

I promised I’d show you how I work through the overwhelm, and that starts now.

Follow along. 🏠

Yikes!

Saw this on > and had to do my own version!

Do we share any of the same?!

Junk drawers CAN be handy, but without a few containers separating the junk, it’s chaos isn’t it?

Epic fail - buying storage to store items you ain’t even decluttered yet. I’m loving living with less clothing (whole family) since we’ve been out of our home. Wonder what a middle ground is?!

Footwear by the doorway, on the mat, NEXT TO the footwear unit. Come onnnnnn! I get it, your mind is elsewhere (speaking to my family members here) but help us all out! PLEASE

I’ve been keeping a secret…

While I’ve been helping people feel more at ease in their homes, behind the scenes I’ve been living with real anxiety about my own.

Telling myself, and my family, ‘I’ll be ok when the house is done.’

Eight months+++ of that!

I hate that I did that.

It’s such an “I’ll be happy when…” trap.

And I know better.

We’ve lived without so much of our stuff during this renovation.

And honestly?

I don’t want it back.

T-5 days until we move back in. The overwhelm is already here.

Follow along as I navigate moving back in, the messy, real version.

The techniques I use might help you too.

6 more sleeps

My mental load right now is wild!
I’m going to grab a piece of paper and map my week out.

How do you manage the mental load?

Making this change now will reduce overwhelm and labour for tomorrow!

Noticed for yourself how one brands size is drastically different from the next brand?!

It’s the same for children’s clothing too!

from birth they grow so freakin rapidly 🥹 sorry to break it to you!

You’ll reduce
✅ daily overwhelm
✅ future uncertainty when you’re shopping
✅ Brand awareness

By choosing 1-2 favourite stores!

Make the change as you’re considering their spring summer wardrobe!

This works for pre-loved too! Just filter those favourite brands on your favourite platform!

Which brands or stores will you choose?

This week BTS at our renovation

Starting on Saturday, E & I picked up this banana plant from gave it a drink and before we knew it we’d soaked the screed the builder had been waiting to dry 🫣

Sunday, kids getting involved with painting behind the radiators 🖌️

Monday - Following visit last week, I placed the stickers on the wall. tipped me off on 3 for 2 deal, ending that same day, 🫠 rush on to get these samples from paint them on, check them out & purchase them. Huge saving here. If it’s not quite right, 2nd coat of it is!

Tuesday - This bag hanging on the stairs isn’t any bag! This is the extra mental load that goes into living a fair few miles from home, it’s the uniform for the evening club E goes to. I’d packed it, put it in the car, but David was taking E! It might sound like not a lot, but this on the regular 😅

Tuesday 2 - finally decided on a vanity unit for the ensuite. Again, and I were really into solid wood repurposed unit for this space. However, the space is so awkward and little floorspace, I searched, David searched, Danielle searched! Solid wood is not to be at the moment. Here’s a PVC a wrapped one.

Tuesday 3 - who knew there were different sized spacers and grout lines to consider 😆 I do now! Message to the reno group, this is one of the kindest messages I’ve sent 👀

Tuesday 4 - shower tray in ensuite! 🥳 this is an 800x1000mm. Relieved we switched from 800x800 in the end. Wild angles in this part of the build and Rhys & team have navigated them exceptionally 💪🏽

Tuesday 5 - bath is in the family bathroom 🚽 😅 freed up space in a bedroom for the painting to continue

Wednesday - dolled up for the first time in, well ages for interview 382. I haven’t heard yet, hoping to hear Monday. I’d really really like this job 🙌🏽

Wednesday 2 - the orange 🍊 tiles are ON! These are Luma Burnt Orange Gloss Ceramic Wall Tile, size 200x65 from I first saw these tiles at .one_____ & LOVED them. I uhmmmed & ahhhhed about them for some time….

It’s ok not to be ok doesn’t always mean it feels ok to not feel ok…

I feel so privileged to be…
Supporting parents in their homes to clear clutter
Employed in a great team, doing work that feels good
Welcomed to my in-laws, my Mum & friends homes
Watching the joy my children experience with the magic of Christmas
Renovating our home

🫶🏽🥰

I also feel challenged…
By the overconsumption of stuff during the festive time
Luteal phase of my cycle, leaving me tearful, tired and low
Upcoming plans, busy diary, blank diary
Overthinking what I said

🙈🤪

I invite you to send a message, or even call someone to let them know how you’re doing right now.

If you have capacity, please call someone just to find out how are they doing!

There’s so much at play at Christmas time.
Reflections on the year
‘Achievements’ and ‘failures’ *yawn*
Family & relationship dynamics
Grief
Joy
All that’s inbetween

There are many spaces that can support you…

Chose this song because my day at work today Happiness Bruch involved a signing workshop! How utterly wonderful.

‘Have the day you have’ from The Odd Life of Timothy Green.
