The Garden Cottage

The Garden Cottage The Red Shed Nursery moved on 2 November 2019 to Inverqueich by Alyth in Perthshire. Acquired by Kate Everett. October 2021 transition complete.

There will be a transition period as the reins are handed over. Info here being updated. The Garden Cottage is Britain's longest standing intentional food forest garden run by permaculture expert and teacher Graham Bell and his wife Nancy at their home in the Scottish Borders. The site has been chemical free for over thirty years and was mostly fallow for many years before that. It is an amazing t

To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. ~Arundhati Roy

An interesting post from our friend Maryam Buddin. Causes me to reflect in why we do this stuff...

Meeting Between Bread. Most of you should know me pretty well. I don’t accept very many friends anymore because I feel it’s not for me. And of late not a big fan of the platform anymore . Almost every FB friend I have known on some level or degree throughout my life or have met at one point so you are not just a number. But if you are on my FB page , it’s because we have some connection. I would love to see if we can still chat more than just likes... I decided to participate in an experience called “Meeting between Bread”. The idea is to see who reads a post without a photo. We are so consumed with technology that we forget the most important thing: good friendship. If no one is reading this message, it will be a short social experiment. But if you finish this till the end, I would love you to comment in ONE WORD about us. For example, a place, an object, a person, a moment in which you remember us. Then copy this post and post it on your page (don’t share) and I’ll go to your page and leave a word that reminds me of you. Please don’t comment if you don’t have time to copy the text. This will destroy the experiment. Let’s see who spent their time to read and respond according to the common story.

Regrettably Storm Arwen seems to have seen off our pal. Sigh.

What a joy it is to have the Tawny Owl back in our Atlantic Cedar 3 metres from the living room window. Thanks to Sandy for the photo.

26 degrees in the shade again today. 30+Three degrees warmer forecast for tomorrow.. Jason's great discovery. If you stand next to the air heat source pump when it's running you get the very best cool-off. Of course this time of year that only works when it's heating the water... early morning midday and early evening. Still: an unthought of benefit...
