🌳 National Apprenticeship Week 2026 🌳
This week we’re celebrating the people who are shaping the future of our industry.

At Treetops De-Vegetation Services LTD, apprenticeships aren’t just a pathway into arboriculture—they’re a chance to grow skills, confidence, and a long‑term career. We’re proud to have supported three apprentices so far, each bringing fresh energy and a real passion for tree care.

Watching them progress from their first day on site to becoming skilled, capable members of the team has been one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

You will have seen our recent advert for our next apprentice and interviews have started this week 😁

Here’s to the next generation of arborists and the future of our industry.

Did You Know? 🌳 Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs)

Did you know that some trees are legally protected under Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs)?

A TPO is put in place by local authorities to protect trees that offer significant environmental, historical, or visual value. Once a tree is protected, it is illegal to cut down, prune or damage it without formal permission—even if the tree is on private property.

Why TPOs matter:

🌳They help preserve local landscapes

🌳They protect wildlife habitats

🌳They prevent unnecessary or harmful tree removal

Ignoring a TPO can lead to substantial fines and legal action, so it’s always important to check before carrying out any tree work.

If you’re unsure whether a tree is protected, Treetops can help you check, navigate permissions and ensure all work is carried out legally and responsibly.

The Benefits of Regular Tree Maintenance 🌳

Trees are valuable assets, but like anything living, they require regular care to stay healthy and safe. Ongoing tree maintenance isn’t just about appearance—it’s about long-term protection and growth.

Key benefits of regular tree maintenance:

Improved safety: Removing weak, damaged, or overgrown branches reduces the risk of falling limbs during storms or high winds.

Healthier trees: Pruning encourages strong growth, improves air circulation, and helps prevent disease and pest infestations.

Enhanced appearance: Well-maintained trees add curb appeal and keep your landscape looking tidy and professional.

Property protection: Proper care prevents branches from damaging roofs, power lines, and nearby structures.

Long-term savings: Routine maintenance helps avoid costly emergency removals and extends the life of your trees.

A little preventative care goes a long way. Regular inspections and maintenance ensure your trees remain strong, safe, and an asset—not a liability.

🌿 Healthy trees. Safer spaces. Smarter care.

Deadwood vs Healthy Branches – Know the Difference 🌳

Not all tree branches are created equal. Understanding the difference between deadwood and healthy branches is essential for safety, tree health, and property protection.

Deadwood refers to branches that are no longer alive. These limbs are often dry, brittle, and may lack leaves or buds. Because they’re structurally weak, dead branches can break off without warning—especially during storms or high winds—posing a serious risk to people, vehicles, and buildings below.

Healthy branches, on the other hand, are flexible, full of life, and actively growing. They support the tree’s structure, produce leaves, and help the tree thrive. Properly maintained healthy branches are far less likely to fail.

Why deadwood is a risk:

🌳Increased chance of falling limbs

🌳Safety hazards for people and property

🌳Potential spread of disease or pests

🌳Reduced overall tree health and appearance

Regular tree inspections and timely deadwood removal help keep trees strong, safe, and looking their best. If you’re unsure about the condition of your trees, please get in touch for a professional assessment.

🌿 Healthy trees start with informed care.

🌳 Seasonal Tree Care Tip: Why Winter Is the Best Time for Pruning

Winter might look like a quiet time for your trees, but it’s actually the perfect season for pruning. While trees are dormant, trimming helps reduce stress and allows them to heal more efficiently before spring growth begins. With leaves gone, it’s easier to spot weak, damaged, or crossing branches—making precise, effective cuts that improve structure and safety.

Winter pruning also helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases that are more active in warmer months. The result? Healthier trees, stronger growth, and a better-looking landscape come springtime.

If you think your tree is in need of pruning, please get in touch for a FREE non-obligatory quote.
