A day spent mostly working on spreadsheets and forms. It's a common misconception that architects spend all their time designing buildings and producing pretty drawings! 😂😂

No design becomes reality without a hell of lot of other hard work behind the scenes. The technical and admin stuff is equally necessary, just less glamorous than the design concept.

Another planning application submitted in East Morton. A home extension and internal reconfiguration to provide airy, open-plan living spaces which spill out into a new terraced garden. Providing good connectivity between indoor and outdoor spaces is a common requirement for those wishing to improve their home.

Looking for some patterned glass to match the larger pane in this photo, to repair a leaded light. It isn't the readily available Pilkington's Arctic pattern (which has been used in the top right pane). Anyone any ideas?

There are signs that the construction industry may be starting to loose a little of its insensitive, macho image.

This is a very good thing. Particularly when you consider that construction has a su***de rate three times higher than other sectors. And that is overall - for all construction workers (based on pre-Covid figures). Within this, lies the really shocking statistic that unskilled and blue collar construction workers are more than ten times more likely to take their own life than construction managers and professionals. With the huge challenges faced by construction due to Covid, it is thought things are likely to have got even worse.

There are a number of factors that have led to such a high rate of su***de in construction. Job insecurity is undoubtedly a huge factor and workers often perform roles that are very isolating. An unforgiving, bullying culture and a stigma around mental health also greatly exacerbate the problem.

This short film highlights the issue. Helping someone find a way to talk may lead them to hope.

Architecture with Feeling

As architects, our role is to create great buildings that work well, are cost effective and are a pleasure to use. Our aim is to integrate those buildings into their context and to maximise their potential to help the wider area to flourish or to promote its regeneration. We believe in simplicity and that coherent and modest buildings, informed by an integrated approach to sustainability and longevity, are more likely to stand the test of time.

We are adept at placing confident, resonant, modern development into historic settings, making beautiful interventions in precious places including listed buildings.

Based in Lancashire, a mile from the Yorkshire border, we offer a full range of architectural services, from feasibility to completion of construction work on site. Our aim is always to lift the spirit and delight our client.
