A little festive update!🕯️🌺🎄

As usual, the run up to the festive period has flown by in a flurry of comforting clove, cinnamon and sweet orange essential oils, soy wax, and pine needles ☺️…

But unusually, I’ve hardly shared anything on social media, mostly due to being busy with Christmas markets, a touch of wholesale, a lot of life, and mostly all your online candle and wax melt orders.

Thank you for that. So much. I’m always amazed at the number of people who find my website, and awed by those of you who come back year after year to order candles from me. ❤️

And now it’s almost time to call last orders for this year. Tuesday the 16th is the last day to place your order if you want to receive your candles and wax melts before Christmas. 🌟

(At this stage, there’s only a few handfuls of Festive Forest Spice wax melts left anyway so please be quick if you were hoping for some/more of those.)

I hope you’re staying cosy and enjoying what light there is- not long now until the solstice! ❄️🕯️✨

It has been a total delight to be making Festive Forest Spice candles and wax melts again! 🌲🍊🕯️

To have the house filled with the warming and cheering scents of cinnamon, clove, ginger, pine and sweet orange essential oils.

Festive Forest Spice isn’t just a (totally natural 🌿) scent for Christmas, but a beautifully warming and cheering scent for the autumn months and in anticipation of the festivities ahead. 🌟

I’m so excited for everyone who has preordered my festive products to receive them soon! (And if you’ve not already done so, you still can, of course.) 😍

We’re off to Portugal at the weekend for 6 days (my first holiday abroad since pre-pandemic! 🤩).

But on the 28th of October, Festive Forest Spice candles and wax melts will officially be back for the festive season and your preordered goodies will be in the post to you! Thank you sooooo much! ❤️

If you happen to need candles or wax melts (other than festive ones) asap, please get your order in tonight otherwise it won’t be posted until I get back on the 24th. 🙏🥰

Follow what makes you come alive!🌲🍂✨

My partner and I took a long walk at The Hermitage and Rumbling Bridge in Dunkeld on Sunday to see the start of the autumn colours… and it unexpectedly turned into a scent walk, which I was honestly pretty chuffed about! 😄

Something about the sun warming the resin from the pine and spruce trees, mixed with bark, damp Sphagnum moss, fallen leaves and needles… 🌲🌳☀️🍁🍂

It all created the most delicious scent. We kept stopping to breathe it in and try to name the aromas (and me to sniff the occasional tree trunk or patch of moss, which probably looked pretty weird to the folks walking just behind us! 😂).

Amber, vanilla, butterscotch, pine, balsamic, dry wood, damp earth, warm, sweet, resinous…

The scent deepened as we moved into the forest… My god, it was delicious! 😍 It reminded me why I love natural essences: their depth, complexity, and the way they transform over time and depending on their environment.

Some of my bottles of base notes (like benzoin, vetiver & patchouli) have matured over the years, becoming richer and more delicious. Unlike artificial fragrances, natural essences are dynamic, vital, alive. 🌿

I haven’t released a new scent for Scents of the Wild for a while, but it’s not because I’ve stopped dreaming or creating. A few blends are very slowly developing behind the scenes (and hopefully one might be ready by early 2026!).

That walk reminded me how important it is to slow down, pay attention to what’s around us, and follow what lights us up, even if it seems weird or doesn’t make sense to others. ✨

Those little sparks of interest and passion deserve time, space and nurture to evolve into the fullness of whatever they’re meant to be.

And who knows what unexpectedly beautiful places they may lead us if we let them! 🌲🍂☀️

So, here’s to remembering to slow down, tune in, and follow what makes us come alive, even if nobody else gets it! 💚

P.S. Thank you for being on this natural scent journey with me! 🌺

My most polarising scent…

People tend to either love it instantly or recoil at first sniff!

It’s my earthiest, smokiest, most mysterious essential oil blend- deep, grounding, and a little wild. If autumn had a scent, I imagine this might be it. 🍂

Both grounding and uplifting, I gravitate towards this candle scent when I’m feeling unsettled, restless, or my nerves are frayed.

Carefully built drop by drop with pure essential oils of vetiver, Virginian cedar, petitgrain, and bergamot, it’s deep and rich with a scent like damp soil after the rain, smoky campfire, and an uplifting burst of citrus, like a glimmer of sunshine through the trees. 🍁☀️

My most expensive candle to make. Some of the essential oils are extremely costly!

But no cheap artificial fragrance oils designed to mimic natural essences could ever come close to the depth, richness and complexity of truly natural scents. 🌿

After months out of stock, I’ve just restocked Tranquil Earth (both the candles and wax melts), and will do my best to keep it available over the coming months for those of you who love it. 💜

And suddenly it’s go time…

Time for prepping, making, restocking festive candles, wax melts, gift sets, candle making kits. 🎄🕯️🎁

Lots of pep in my step! 🤩 I just love bringing back my Festive Forest Spice scent every year! I hope you’re looking forward to it too?

For those of you who’ve been asking and wondering, here’s the plan:

⭐️ Tomorrow (Thursday 2nd October), I’ll be opening preorders for my festive candles, wax melts and candle making kits! (Make sure you’re on my email list for your early bird 15% off all my festive products until Sunday 5th October). 🎄

Then Tuesday 28th October, I’ll release all festive products on my website (all your preorders will be in the post to you on this day too). 🎁

Hopefully this sounds good to you? Personally, I can’t wait and am very much looking forward to the house being filled with cosy festive scents again! 🌲🍊🥰

‘Wild Scottish Blooms’ limited edition candles are back on Tuesday! 🌸🌿💜

As usual, there will only be a small quantity, and I normally only make these once a year (unless there’s dried heather left over and I get the urge for colour in the midst of winter gloominess!).

I hope you like them (make sure you watch the video to the end to see the finished candles! 😍)

September has started delightfully…

A short trip back ‘home’ to the Glencoe area. Rainbows seemingly everywhere. 🌈
A night in a hotel with the best view. ⛰️ Pretty fun being a tourist in the place you grew up!
Meeting up with an old, close friend. (You know the type of friend where it doesn’t matter how much time passes, there’s no weirdness and you pick up exactly where you left off?!)
And a quick sneak peek to show my partner the farm I spent my childhood, and a walk at the beach where we spent many’s a happy time kayaking and camping as kids. 😊

Total time away: 36 hours. Proof that even short trips can be magical. ✨

Autumn is in the air. There are exciting new prospects and projects on the horizon. And with the turning of the seasons, I feel like I’m coming alive again. 🍂🌞

I’ve honestly never said this before but this year I’m actually looking forward to autumn and winter! (Are you- even if you usually think of yourself as more of a spring and summer person too?)

Perhaps it’s because we’ve had a warm, sunny, ‘proper’ summer this year.
Or perhaps it’s because, despite the beautiful summer we’ve had, I haven’t felt particularly sunny these past few months- until a few weeks ago…

Whatever it is, I’m welcoming the shift and looking forward to the cosiness of candle season ahead. 🧡

I’ll have more news to share with you about my seasonal limited edition ‘Wild Scottish Blooms’ candles in a few days.

But until then, I hope you have a lovely first weekend of September. ☺️

So, the heather is blooming again! 🌸 And I’ve been out gathering some to dry for my annual lot of limited edition ‘Wild Scottish Blooms’ candles.

Coming soon.
A small quantity of candles.
Once the heather’s dried.
And after a late summer sale for my email subscribers tonight/tomorrow.

Hope you’re having a great week so far 💜

P.S. The lovely little ladybird crawling up my leg and taking flight while I was collecting heather was one of the simple & beautiful moments in the wild that really made my day! It’s all about the small things, isn’t it?!🐞

I’ve been overthinking this for way too long… What to write after being quiet on here since June..? Finally decided it doesn’t matter. Just begin! Write anything! And so here I am… Hello. 😊

I’ve been living pretty quiet the last few months. Sometimes our lives are more externally focused and other times, internally. Listening, reflecting, pondering, recharging, reassessing. Or just living day to day with no desire to share our thoughts and ideas with the world. Whatever. Quiet.

Scents of the Wild has been quiet. That’s normal, it’s usually quiet for candles in the summer since I don’t do a lot of wholesale. But this year has been unusually quiet. I’ve been focusing on other things, other work, getting outdoors, walking in the woods, foraging, general health and wellness…

As ever, the natural world is where I feel best and most like myself. I walk and run and just be in it whenever I can, as though my wellbeing depends on it (because it does!). 🌿🌳

Slowly I’ve been collecting and drying marigolds and organic lavender for decorating candles in the winter. Mum has sent me 3 packages of them over the last couple of months (picked from her garden on the Isle of Colonsay). Opening every package makes me smile. 🌼

I’ve also been regularly foraging for plants like red clover, yarrow, meadowsweet, self heal, eye bright (all my usual favourites) to make herbal teas. It grounds me and makes me feel connected to the land. 💚

Always sniffing the gorgeous wild scents of summer along the way, like meadowsweet and honeysuckle.

I may not always know where I’m going, but I trust that if I stay close to the natural world, I’ll end up somewhere beautiful!

I hope you’ve been enjoying the light, warmth, tastes, sounds and scents of summer! 🌼
