Cosmos are charismatic easy to grow annuals beloved by bees that are perfect for creating summer long displays and especially good for filling gaps in established borders. This year we’ve grown several gorgeous named varieties. Strong plants in 9cm pots available now!

We invite you to join us for our third annual Bee Safari with award-winning author and native bee champion Jean Vernon ( ), here at Middlecombe on Tuesday 16th June.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to spend a couple of hours learning more than you ever thought there was to know about some of our native bees, including bumbles and many lesser known solitary bees. The UK has roughly 250 species of the latter, yet most are not very well known despite their fascinating lifestyles. And, of course, all our native bees need as much help from us as they can get, so Jean will introduce you to some of the very best plants you can grow for them, as well as advising on creating nest sites.

Bees and weather willing, we’ll take you on ‘safari’ through our bee-friendly gardens where Jean will hopefully catch a few different bees (without harming them or you) in special magnifying jars so you can appreciate their exquisite detail. It’s sure to be a buzzy morning!

For tickets visit www.ticketsource.com and search ‘middlecombe’.

It’s peak plant time! More and more plants are arriving here at the nursery every day, including some really cracking shrubs. Whilst many are old faithfuls there are also some stunning new varieties. We nipped out round the A-Z this morning and photographed a few of our favourites.

Can you believe it’s a year since the first few studios in our Arts and Artisans Courtyard opened their doors and invited us in? Time flies! It’s now a friendly, thriving community of seven creative folk who both make and sell from their studios. That’s a lot of talent and skill gathered together in one spot!

Over the coming weeks we’ll be chatting to each artist and taking a look at some of the beautiful items they craft. So keep an eye on this space, and do come and visit.

Please note that the individual artists keep different hours so please check with them before making a special journey to see one in particular.
