🔨 Before & After: Heritage Front Door Restoration in Stratford-upon-Avon 🌟We recently gave this beautiful character front door a complete, modern upgrade while preserving its historic charm. Working through the hottest day on record didn’t stop us from delivering a flawless finish!Here is how we transformed it:Complete Paint Strip: Removed the old, thick layers down to the bare wood.Double Glazing Upgrade: Refitted the centre bar to form two panes and adjusted the rebates to accept efficient double-glazed units.Flawless Prep: Sanded, sanded, and sanded some more before applying a high-quality primer coat.Custom Hardware: Refitted the customer’s own traditional ironmongery.Weather Proofing: Installed discreet draught sealing to all edges alongside a brand-new weatherbar.Transom Light Overhaul: Removed and stripped the fixed light above the door, upgrading it to double glazing complete with the house number.Now this home has all the thermal benefits of modern double glazing without losing a single bit of its traditional aesthetic.

A recent example of an argon filled heritage double glazed unit fitted into an original sash window.

These units get a bad rap but the main reason for them failing is poor installation. We’ve been fitting them for about 14-15 years and can count on one hand the amount of broken down units.

If you’re in a conservation area or have wooden windows this cost saving alternative to replacing your windows.

Today’s work carried out at Barford village hall.

The tricky part was having to carefully remove the existing leaded lights and refit them into the 2 new casements. There was extensive rot around the lower frame but nothing we can’t handle 🤷🏻‍♂️

Replacing 3 very rotten sash cills and box linings all In sapele. The rotten boards underneath are to be done at a later time.

I always prefer replacing outer cheeks full height. They are exposed to the elements and any joints are just going ti open up and cause a whole world of problems.

This customer is decorating the frames themselves whilst I have the saws back at home for extensive remedial work.

Enjoying a bank holiday off for once but here’s next weeks work

We picked these sashes up Saturday and had time to remove the glass.🪚🔨

Turns out they are a bit worse than we initially thought. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It is what it is and by the time they are paint stripped, repaired, re glazed and painted they’ll be good as new…… or at least that’s the plan 😆
