Today our team attended a job in Hinckley 📍

The customer noticed characteristics of a damp issue in their home due to water staining, blown plaster and crumbling paint. We went in and removed the skirting boards, hacked back the affected area before drilling the mortar to prepare it for chemical injection.

We then moved on and placed caps in the drilled holes to ensure that the damp cream remains in the correct position before applying Liquid DPC to the area. Plasterboards were then applied using dry grip adhesive containing polyurethane, which also acts as an additional barrier to damp. We then plastered over the boards to complete the job and leave the customer permanently damp free.

Most landlords have never heard of Awaab’s Law.
They need to.

In 2020 a two year old boy named Awaab Ishak died. The cause was prolonged exposure to black mould in his family’s social housing property.
His death led to a change in the law.

Awaab’s Law was introduced requiring social housing landlords to investigate and fix reported health hazards within strict mandatory timeframes.

From 1st May it is coming to the private rented sector.
Every private landlord in England will be legally required to investigate damp, mould and serious health hazards within set timeframes once a tenant reports them.

Fail to act and you face enforcement action. Fines. Compensation claims.
No excuses. No delays. No blaming the tenant’s lifestyle.

I want to be clear about something.
This is one part of the Renters Rights Act I agree with.
No child should ever die because a landlord ignored a mould problem. No family should live in those conditions.

Good landlords maintain their properties. They respond to reports. They fix problems.
If this law puts bad landlords out of business I am completely fine with that.

Recently we carried out an internal wall insulation system to an external wall that had ongoing issues with condensation and mould. The main aim was to warm the wall up from the inside, reduce cold spots, and stop moisture in the air from forming on the surface and feeding mould growth. What we did (step by step)
We prepared the wall and made sure everything was clean, sound, and ready for the system. We then installed a treated batten framework, fitted insulation between the battens, and used a breathable layer where required to help manage moisture and keep the wall performing properly. Once everything was tight and properly sealed to reduce drafts and thermal bridging, we finished the whole wall with a plastered finish ready for decorating.

It helps keep the room warmer and more comfortable, reduces condensation risk by taking away that cold wall surface, and can massively improve mould prevention when paired with good ventilation and lifestyle habits. Customers often notice the room heats up quicker and holds heat better too, which can help reduce heating costs over time.

Recent Damp Proofing Project in Coventry.

We recently attended a property where the customer was experiencing signs of damp along the lower sections of internal walls. After carrying out a full inspection, we identified that the issue was likely being caused by bridging from the concrete floor.
